Basically it could end up being .... Tmac - JHoward - Jon Barry (Lue) - Mike James (Gaines) for Steve Francis - Doug Christie (Mobley) - Cato
James was acquired using the TE and Gaines has been converted into Zendon Hamilton, so this isn't accurate, technically.
Yeah, you really have to replace James with Zendon Hamilton, who is being released. Also, you could play this game all the way back to infinitum...because we got Francis through a trade, too, etc. etc.
Geez, you guys are being too technical over a fun observation. Yea, when you put it like that, CD looks like he knew what he was doing the whole time.
Feb. 24, 2005, 1:00AM Magic plan to take ball out of Francis' hands more often Associated Press ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Magic appear to be losing patience with Steve Francis. The talented but erratic guard was fined for missing practice earlier this week, then went out and played his worst game of the season in a 108-84 loss to Indiana on Tuesday night. Magic coach Johnny Davis said Wednesday the search for a steadier offense means the ball will be in Francis' hands less. The player, coach and general manager John Weisbrod all were quick to say Monday's incident is behind them, but Francis' stat line against the Pacers was hard to forget. He had a season-low six points and one assist, shooting 2-for-10 with four turnovers. "It wasn't just one guy," Francis said of the 24-point defeat. But Francis was the only Orlando player to return late from the All-Star break. "He didn't practice. He had a shootaround and then we played," Davis said. "Well, shootaround's not practice. Anytime you take that many days off without practicing it has somewhat of an effect on you -- and I thought we saw that (Tuesday) night." A change in Francis' role has been growing likelihood. Simply put, the Magic's primary ballhandler doesn't handle the ball very well. His 4.12 turnovers per game rank third in the league, deflating his impressive averages of 21.6 points, seven assists and 6.2 rebounds. Davis has been installing offensive sets with Doug Christie and Jameer Nelson at the point and Francis as the shooting guard. Grant Hill also could see more time running the offense. "Steve is a good finisher," Davis said. "We do want to have him get those opportunities to play off the ball at times. I would say we'll see more of that as we move forward." Francis sees opportunities in the change. "It means not having to do so much: running the fast break, running the offense and then having to score, too," Francis said. "If I have somebody else bringing the ball up, maybe that'll give me more of an opportunity to score." Making the move possible is Nelson's development. In the last 11 games in which he's played at least 12 minutes, the rookie is averaging 12.5 points while shooting 52 percent. Against the Pacers, he scored a team-high 15. "When he plays like he did, it's easy to have him on the floor," Davis said. "He brings us a different dimension." http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/printstory.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/3054651
I completely disagree... because the TMac trade was lopsided from the second it even became our pipe dream last summer!
This is the second time someone posted that article to take a shot at Francis but the Magic have been saying that since before the Doug Christie trade so I really don't understand the point.
pbag- Between carrying that chip on your shoulder and beating dead horses, you must be one exhausted individual.
that's not the point, the point is that is old news. it was old news before the Magic started playing .500 ball. I'm not even disagreeing with it.
The Francis-McGrady Deal ends up being... Houston Sends... Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley and Kelvin Cato to Orlando Houston Receives... Tracy McGrady, Juwan Howard, Tyron Lue, Reece Gaines Houston now has from that.... Tracy McGrady, Juwan Howard, Mike James, Jon Barry Orlando now has.... Steve Francis, Doug Christie, Kelvin Cato I already thought the Rockets initially made out better in the trade, but looking at this...I guess Caroll Dawson is alot smarter than we give him credit for. (aside from the contracts hes given out in the past) I really like the make up of our team. I just wonder how Yao feels knowing that the most familar faces on his team are Moochie Norris and Scotty the Body
You can look at it that way. Don't forget that the Rockets also used a TE and 2 second round draft picks to get James.
Well gucci, if you are going to say that then you must also say that we got that trade exception from the McGrady trade. Sorry for splitting hairs...........
Yes, but the trade exception was from the Francis/McGrady trade. And second round pics are practically toilet paper.
I'm not sure that's true. IIRC, we used part of the TE from the Glen Rice to Utah deal, and it left us with a smaller TE (with a longer shelf life) which we used in the James deal. I could be wrong.
