has anyone played it yet? i didn't even know it was coming out till my friend called me up this afternoon and we went to gamestop and bought it. i haven't had a chance to play it yet(i'm about to start) but am definitely looking forward to online play if it's any good. ign gave it a 9.2 x-box review anyways this will be the last one for atleast the next seven years while we get to play inferior baseball games in the interim. YAY! this sucks balls since last years game was the best baseball game ever made and i'm assuming this improves on it.
I played it already, probably the best baseball game I ever played. My brief review so far. -Owner is pretty good and challenging so far. After about 6 home games I'm in Debt so thats good that its not to easy. -Gameplay has improved alot. No more lefty glitch. Way better animations. -Havnet really got into playing the new mini games, or using the hitters eye yet. Best moment I had so far playing is when I played the mets. I plunked Beltran with Clemons. Beltran charged the mound and got him a 6 game suspension.LOL
I ordered it but for some reason, it's only shipping on March 1. I can't wait to get it. Drilling Beltran every time we face off.
Got it a couple of days ago. The game plays a lot faster than last year, but the graphics feel rushed. All the in-game player models have jagged white outlines that make them look 2D. The new default batting view is prety realistic and makes things much more challenging when righties face righties, and lefties face lefties. The angle improves drastically when a righty faces a lefty and vice versa. I have to get used to left handers hitting for power. I was so used to them hitting looping line drives last year, that I didn't think twice about giving Larry Walker a fastball on the inside corner. He creamed it about 430 feet for a 3 run homer. Pretty cool, but I think I'm going to hold on on really getting into it until a roster update is released after spring training. One thing that really jumped out at me is that they have Willie Tavares with only 86 speed. And I know Bagwell had a down year as far as HR's, but his power ratings in the game are pathetic this year. Anyone use Lidge yet? He was awful in last year's game and required a lot of tweaking. hell, he didn't even have a slider by default in the game.
Bagwell really is about where they rated him. Willie has more speed than that but I noticed they really didnt give players such high numbers for speed as they did last year. Lidge is pretty awesome this year throwing 97-98 mph fastball and that large breaking slider. My only problem so far is the comp hits the slider to easily. you have to throw it away for any good. They usually nail the back door slider.
I just got back from Fry's on the northside and they hadn't recieved the PS2 version yet. I was pissed. They have it for $25 bucks too.
Well, I have the game for the X-Box and playing on a HDTV. It looks incredible as it is 720p this year. I like the game, I just have to get used to the controls as I am used to playing on the PS2. I played Astros vs MEts in my first game. Biggio made a 3-run error in the 8th to give the Mets the win.
Does anyone know if it allows for two human players to be on the same team this year? I don't believe it did last year...I was hoping they would add that in.
Hah, you got screwed too eh? They have them in stock...GOD KNOWS WHERE though. >:O I bought my copy at EB across the parking lot after I got off of work. Paid 5 bucks extra, but got it 2 days sooner
Me too. I can't wait to get it. Last year it wasn't fair in Lidge's honor. He sucked so badly in the game.
I reserved a copy and got it on the first day. My PS2 has been on since the second I put the game in (so about 4 consecutive days of non-stop action). If I had to go to one place for all eternity and could only bring one game, it would be MVP 2005.
I'm stickin w/ '04.... the best baseball game to its date and the Astros had a great team. No sense buying '05 w/ so many question marks... might as well wait till we get a next gen contender on a next gen console. Besides...I'm pretty behind and still need to get Echoes for Gamecube
I won't consider buying it. I'm going with ESPN World Series Baseball 2K5. I have been a loyal supporter of Visual Concepts/Sega Sports/ESPN since the series first came out with the 2K edition games.
I just bought it today. Last i checked it was slated for a March 1st release date. Next thing i know this thread pops up. I played a game then messed around with the owner mode. So far i like what i see. My one problem with the owner mode is having to create a stadium. I'd rather just keep the real ballpark. Maybe i missed it, anyway getting around creating the ballpark? IGN reviewed both ESPN and MVP and it wasn't even close. MVP got a 9.2 while ESPN got a 8.5... It's a shame the apparent weaker game will be the one controlling the baseball market. ESPN MVP
Ah damn. IGN is the only site I read that reviews games and been reading IGN since they FIRST started, so normally I agree with their rating. I'll be checking out their review of ESPN. I didn't expect the score for it to be that low or for it to be that much behind MLB. Least I know a thing or two about modded Xbox's which enables you to get games for free - not that I own one or anything like that....
alright i've been playing it for the last day now and it's awesome. the only thing that sucks is that my friend continues to beat my a$$ on x-box live but thats another story. the graphics are about the same as last year except for the faces are a little more recognizeable. the stadiums also look the same to me, and they didn't change the homeruns at all, for example hitting a homer in minute maid looks like a carbon copy of last years. the HUGE improvement is in animations. there's a whole bunch of different foul swings, you get jammed, you even lunge for the ball on the outside, it looks really nice. i've only had a few double play balls but it appears to be alot smoother then last year when the animation would occasionaly stop. all in all it looks the same but its more fluid. the gameplay is essentially the same, but the pitching meter is a bit smaller so it's harder initially to get a perfect pitch. i like the batter's eye but at first i was to busy looking for the color that i wasn't paying attention to the location. it's a nice feature but once your eyes get used to it you'll have a huge advantage. the create-a-player mode is really indepth as far as attributes. you can adjust EVERYTHING your player can do, such as creating your own hot/cold zone against righties and lefties. another cool thing is if you create a pitcher you can determine the type of break his curveball or slider will have, such as 12-6, 10-4, etc.
I picked it up yesterday and have played it a little. I am really enjoying it. I can't wait to drill Beltran. I am really enjoying owner mode. I don't think you can use existing stadiums, because fixing up your stadium is a big part of how owner mode works. You have to work up to getting the upperdeck seating, scoreboards etc. If they just gave all that to you you'd have nothing to work for. The other thing I liked were the new mini games. The timed pitching challenge can be difficult with lesser pitchers. I did ok with Clemens but with some of the weker control guys it is tough.
Can someone tell me if the PS2 game supports 720p or not? This would be the deciding factor in chosing wich version i want to buy.
