He's a bit undersized. He had his breakout seasons playing SF alongside Malone in Utah. Before that, an underachiever. Not really a banger.
I think the main reason the Rox want him is just to add some athletism in the fron court, which they currently don't have. He would be a nice backup for TMac as well. I think they know they can't get their ideal or even banger PF, so Marshall would be the next best thing as well as giving them something they don't have.
I'm worried about the Sura situation right now. I'm thinking of deals where we could get Marshall + Alston or Payton + Perkins) or any big man filler) in exchange for Mo+filler and the TE..
"Are you talking about the Vescey rumor- Baron Davis for Marshall, Alston and Murry." what the heck? why would NO do that? marshall is a UFA at seasons end, so he could just walk, they dont need alston and murray is a scrub
It's different when you're trading an all-star caliber PG for a player than when you're trading an exception and a pick. While on Toronto, another potential player would be Milt Palacio. It's kind of digging deep if we're down to the Palacios of the league as PG options, but he's quite probably better than Strickland, and wouldn't cost too much in value. (Heck, maybe Andre Barrett straight up).
So you trade away a chance to get younger and build around your core for a guy that could walk at season's end.
Uh, no. It's the opposite. That's a horrible move for New Orleans, since they're going nowhere. The Rockets are going somewhere this year, thus taking on a guy who can walk at season's end is not necessarily a bad thing.
I never said it wasn't a horrible move for New Orleans. Yes, the Rockets are going somewhere this year. Do we NEED Donyell Marshall? Maybe. Is he worth trading away a draft pick? Not in my opinion. You can say it's "not necessarily a bad thing" to trade the pick away until the guy actually walks at season's end then you sit there and wonder why we NEVER have any draft picks. You are overlooking how important adding youth to our core really is. When you have a team set up like the Rockets are, you have no choice but to take advantage of the limited opportunities you get to add young talent. Let's say we trade the pick, get the guy and he does end up staying in Houston. Okay, we have a 31 year old PF we just signed to a 4 or 5 year contract. Is that really wise in the long run? It's like some of your mentalities are when in doubt, trade the pick! (and look where that has gotten us)
Per ESPN Insider: Feb. 23 - The Indianapolis Star reports the Pacers are considering dealing for Marshall and lists two scenarios. In one, Marshall would be traded straight-up for center Scot Pollard. However, that would leave Indiana thin at center and overloaded at forward. The other scenario would involve a larger deal, with Marshall, Milt Palacio and another player being packaged for Austin Croshere, Anthony Johnson and James Jones. The Heat also are thought to be pursuing Marshall, who's attractive to a lot of teams because he's in the last year of his contract. Miami reportedly is considering trading Michael Doleac, Malik Allen and Wesley Person for Marshall. Rookie guard Dorell Wright also could be included in a Miami-Toronto trade. No mention of the Rockets in the copy, but they ARE still listed as a possible trading partner. (C'mon? Marshall for SCOT POLLARD?? We can match that...)
First Vince Carter is traded Eric Williams, then Webber is traded for Kenny Thomas, it looks like Redd could be dealt just for for cap room space, now Marshall could be traded for the likes of Croshere, Pollard and their outrageous contracts. I sure hope the Rockets don't overpay to get a trade done. The trade value of our role players looks pretty good right now compared to the ones being dealt. We most definitely, unequivocally, should NOT have to give up any draft picks in any trades we make. If the Sixers don't have to give away any draft picks to get Webber, we sure as hell shouldn't have to give up draft picks to get Payton or any other role players we trade for.
Thank God CD agrees with me that Marshall is in NO way worth our #1 pick. CD managed to pull off two brilliant trades today WITHOUT giving up the pick. Good work CD.
