Clutch, please organize a CTR fast in Houston (you know what I am talking about...) for the Rockets to get a decent PG and not get ripped off in the deal... I am fasting right now!
WHAT THE HELL!? THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST LOPSIDED NBA TRADE I'VE EVER BEEN WITNESS TO (that is, not counting the ones in retrospect, like Traylor for Nowitzki). As a Sactown native, this is absolutely incomprehensible to me. There's no reason at all for this. They didn't even get a bunch of expiring contracts! This is complete and utter GARBAGE! DAAAHHHH!!!
It just gets better folks........ Philly hosts the Kings on Saturday. Boy I would pay to see that game from the courtside sits.
And they want to become like the Grizzlies so they can have a quick exit in the playoffs? This was obviously a very bad trade for the Kings. It makes no sense but as a Rocket fan I am glad one of the contenders in the West has become alot weaker.
Sacramento is trying to make a run for our 6th seed, those sneaky bastards. Really unbelievable. I thought only the Warriors made trades like that. The Kings will have a tough time making the playoffs next year, if not holding onto the spot this year. Bibby and Peja are fine players in the scheme of an offense, Miller and Mobley above average too, but Webber was the one player really, really hard to neutrelize. Even Memphis has Gasol as a 1st option (better than what Sac has know). The West is too good now for the Kings to compete, no doubt in my mind. 6ers not a threat to win the east assuming Mia and Det stay healthy, but I like their chances to play in the semis and make some noise.
You make a strong point here - this is a TERRIBLE Fantasy basketball trade. But in terms of the Kings - it might not be totally ridiculous. For starters they move out Chris Webber - probably the biggest reason that they haven't been an even more serious contender the last few years. In return they get a guy who looks like a solid starter (KT) A guy who is a serviceable backup (Skinner - lost in roatation this year at PHilly) And Williamson (ok - I can't make him out to be good in any way) Sadly they only marginally improve their salary situation - but the best news is that it splits one whopping contract into 3 ugly contracts. Ok - this is getting hard - I'm a bona-fide Webber-basher, but the more I try and put some sort of positive spin on this for Sacramento the more I start to think that at least a second round pick might've made it a little easier to swallow.... Guess they were absolutely desperate to offload Webber!!
Amen to that. Definitely a slam-dunk for Philly, but remember that in a few years they will have ~90% of their payroll locked up in Webber and AI... both of whom will probably be riding the IR for good at that point.
Wait a minute folks........if something is too good to be true....it just well might be. PS. I hope Sixer's GM B. King does not call his counterpart, Petrie, tomorrow morning and tell him he "kicks ass". Now that will be a deal breaker.
I haven't messed with Real GM for a long time, but I just tried this out to see if we could have gotten Webber. Houston trades: PF Maurice Taylor (7.8 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.8 minutes) SF Clarence Weatherspoon (2.2 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.2 apg in 7.6 minutes) PF Juwan Howard (9.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.4 apg in 25.6 minutes) Houston receives: PF Chris Webber (21.3 ppg, 9.7 rpg, 5.5 apg in 36.3 minutes) PF Darius Songaila (6.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.1 apg in 19.5 minutes) Change in team outlook: +8.7 ppg, +2.2 rpg, and +3.6 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED
The Kings will miss Webber. They might end up with a higher pick than expected but I'm not sure how much help they can get with that. KT and Skinner have pretty long contracts too. I'm not sure if this will help them out in the long run. The Sixers stuck to their guns and didn't give up Dalembert,or Korver who can help Webber and AI out. They also retained their 1st round pick which was surprising.
This is a lot like Otis Thorpe for Clyde Drexler (an aging star, who may still have something left)... except that neither team was a defending champion, and neither team will end up being champion after this trade. And with that line... I'm out.
I think Kings were playing excellent basketball w/o Webber last year. They obviously have chemistry issue. But I really dont understand why they made the deal with philly. They can easily trade him to NY for Kurt Thomas and any contract expiring next year like penny or tim thomas. They would have lineup like: Miller, Thomas, Peja, Cat and Bibby. It can be a scary lineup if they can play with the chemistry like last year. Maybe Isiah has fianlly decided he cant take crazy contracts anymore?
Petrie is on about 40 billion grams of crack, unload C-Webb for Kenny Frickin Thomas? Are you kidding me? I know they'd rather keep Peja than Webber, but I can't believe no one else ponied up more for him.
Pippen for Cato plus.... I guess Petrie wanted to end Chris Webber's drama journey in Sac town. Keep in mind that Sacramento did not like CWebb and his excess baggage. It seemed like every season when he was injured, the Kings played better. Now Miller can pad his stats and boost my fantasy teams.
