Does anyone else absolutely love this show? One of my favorites on television right now. The Superstars 1973 when Joe Frazier couldn't swim had me in stitches.
That show is hilarious, I love watching the old arm wrestling competitions, its hilarious the commentary they add
The funniest part of the show to me is how seriously these ridiculous sports were taken by respected sportscasters like Keith Jackson and Al Michaels.
time and channel. If its this good I've got to see it. (side note I loved superstars when I was a kid)
It's on ESPN Classic. I know it comes on Thursday nights and is replayed throughout the weekend. The Superman II references in one of the Superstars episodes was hilarious. We just got through watching the Dog Show/Cheerleading Competition episode. "Hey look, Jerry Krause!" "Man, Soap has really gone downhill." "Can we get this over with? Dreyfuss invited me to an after party." "We're number one...oh wait, number two. That's close to one, but two."
the Steve Garvey Blue Marlin Classic is awesome. michael floorwax gives a brilliant performance, garvey has the lamest jokes ever, and the whole thing is just so pathetic. then they match it up with the bobby bonilla bowling tournament where he actually gets some celebrities but the event and setting suck. the dog show is the one where for some reason they start the show in a gym in new jersey before kicking it over to the dog show, right? and then they tell us who wins before the judge makes the announcement. man i love this show. like someone else said, mst3k for crappy sports and since sci-fi doesn't show mst anymore, this is all i got.
I wish they would just play the old footage with no commentary. The footage itself is inherently funnier than anything those two guys have to say about it.
My stomach is literally in pain from laughing so hard after watching those shows. What about Frazier's face when he was struggling to lift the bar of 155lbs over his head? Hilarious.
This is a great show. One I'm always forgettng to watch. The rodeo in San Antonio episode was what got me hooked.
