If Cheney's 'arm and chest' pains (sure signs of a heart issue) lead to a fatal heart attack... and Bush wins, who's the VP?

Arm and chest pain are not sure signs of a heart issue -- especially in someone his age. It could be related to respiratory or digestive problems, or other issues.

The schedule he's been running for the past couple of months isn't helping. Physical and emotional stress, not to mention a lack of sleep and bad food on the road, could cause problems that mimic heart trouble.

He's doing the right thing, by getting checked out. If it is heart related, it's probably treatable. Keep in mind here in Houston a person's heart was just removed, had tumors removed, was rebuilt using some cow tissue, and replaced. The person is recovering well -- the third (out of three) successful surgery of this type. Modern medicine can treat a lot of heart problems -- and he has access to the best medical care in the world.

Origional question -- If Bush Wins, and Cheney dies, I believe Bush appoints a new vice president, which must be confirmed by the Senate. This has happened before -- I'm not sure if it happened before the new administration took office.

Bush has announced he would appoint Dan Quayle in this event. (Just kidding!) [IMG] I wonder if there's any reason he couldn't appoint his father -- talk about history!

The debutante herself... Kitty Harris. [IMG]

Lets hope they pass the Tammie Faye Baker bill, outlawing 246 layers of makeup, before this happens.

I was going to say that Bush couldn't appoint is father because the Constitution requires that the VP meet the same requirements at the President, but for some reason, I was thinking that the Elder Bush couldn't serve as President anymore. But he could since he was only a one-termer.

I think the nepotism laws might prevent Bush from appointing a family member to any position, including VP, though. But maybe not.

In all seriousness, if Cheney were to die in office, I would expect that someone like Colin Powell would be the first choice to succeed Cheney. If Powell declined (it's rumored that Powell was approached for the VP spot before Cheney was selected, and Powell declined then), I would hope that Bush would pick someone like Christine Whitman or JC Watts.
