i'm not sure if this is what i have but it seems like it. it's on the back of my leg and there is a red spot and swelling surrounding the center of the injured area of about 1 1/2 inches in diameter. it feels almost like a really big pimple. it happened about 2 days ago. i don't think it's anything serious but it hurts a little and the swelling didn't get better overnight. and feel free to tell any disgusting spider bite stories if you like.
I got bit on the hand once. Not sure what type of Spider it was, but my hand was swollen pretty soon after.
I once got bitten on the front of my leg by a spider. You could see too small punctures and it developed a red circle about 5 inches in diameter. It didn't hurt or itch much and the doc just gave me some prednisone or something
i got bitten by a spider maybe three years ago. a brown recluse(sp). I was nasty, a week after the bite they have to cut the bite open. then a was alright after about a month in a half of antibiotics. also, my dad was bitten, and when my son was 2 months he was bitten as well.
i've never been bitten by a brown recluse or a black widow...but i've had my share of spider bites, and insect bites in general. scorpions...wasps...and spiders. yeah..they've all nailed my ass.
I got bit on the forearm about 10 years ago. You could see the fang marks and there was a welp and swelling about 5 inches surrounding it. At the time, I was working in a call center and someone freaked me out by bringing a picture of what a brown recluse did (downloaded from the internet a few years after Gore invented it). A day or 2 later the swelling passed. I didn't take antibiotics or nothing for it. It wasn't too bad, so it wasn't a very venomous spider. Brown recluse spiders are nasty little bastards.
yeah brown recluses are pretty bad, their venom actually eats away at ur muscles. I've been bitten before and mine swelled up like everyone else's, except mine also made me sore where i was bitten. It went away a few days later though so no big deal, it did have the two fang marks though.
the scary thing about brown recluse is how similar they look to normal house spiders. there are tons of brown spiders all over the place in houston. one bites you, and you're never sure.
In Australia we pretty much have the most deadliest spiders in the world. Living in Sydney you have to be carefull of Funnel web spiders which are number one on the most deadly list. They are very aggresive, very big. The other really bad one to get bitten by is the redback spider.
The Flaming Lips - The Spiderbite Song When you got that spider bite on your hand I thought we would have to break up the band To lose your arm would surely upset your brain The poison then could reach your heart from a vein I was glad that it didn't destroy you How sad that would be Cause if it destroyed you It would destroy me When you had that accident in your car That whole thing just really seemed too bizarre Dodging holes and telephone poles through the dash A million to one that you would survive such a crash I was glad that it didn't destroy you How sad that would be Cause if it destroyed you It would destroy me When you fell in love, it was so sweet So devoted, completely swept off your feet Love is the greatest thing a heart can know But the hole that it leaves in its absence can make you feel so low And I was glad that it didn't destroy you How sad that would be Cause if it destroyed you It would destroy me
My boss' boss was bit last year by a brown recluse at a hotel. He didn't think it was a big deal at first but had to rushed to the emergency room later. He had a number of surgeries, skin grafts, antibiotics. He was dealing with it for months and months. The hotel denied responsibility, so he'll have to sue them.
I've always heard that they were generally outdoor spiders, or that they may hang out in closets that dont get used much. Having said that...My old roomates and I actually found one in our house crawling across the living room floor in the middle of the day. It was a new house too in north Austin, not in a super wooded area. Scary.
Ziggy Stardust Ziggy played guitar, jamming good with Weird and Gilly And the spiders from Mars. He played it left hand, But made it too far, Became the special man, then we were Ziggy's band. Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo Like some cat from Japan, he could lick 'em by smiling He could leave 'em to hang Came on so loaded man, well hung and snow white tan. So where were the spiders while the fly tried to break our balls Just the beer light to guide us, So we b****ed about his fans and should we crush his sweet hands? Ziggy played for time, Jiving us that we were voodoo The kids were just crass, he was the nazz With God given ass He took it all too far but boy could he play guitar. Making love with his ego Ziggy sucked up into his mind Like a leper messiah When the kids had killed the man I had to break up the band. Ziggy played gui...tar David Bowie
I guess this maybe off topic, but does your boss' boss really have a case? I mean the hotel really can't control pests going in/out of rooms. It just doesn't seem like they are really negligent in this case. It was just one of those crappy things that happen in life...
I think the effects and damage have more to do with the victim than the spider. Some people react much more severely than others. I think the main thing to do is get Benadril cream or what not (and maybe pill form too) and just check it. Unless you started feeling really ill, hallucinating, lots of pain--I don't think you need to see a doc from a US spider bite. Now I could be wrong but with the funnell web one the Austrialian poster refers to it all over unless you get an antivenum within a few minutes. I was a hair away from stepping on a baby rattler in bare feet last summer, would have had to call 911 on that one even if wasn't a bad bite. By and large even the poisonious American critters (spiders, scorpians, other bugs, snakes, etc) are really wimpy compared to what a lot of the world has.
