As we head into the playoffs, I am feeling optimistic about our team and their chances. Even despite the win streak, I believe that we are the 2nd most feared team in the west. (next to S.A. obviously). The playoffs are all about halfcourt games and grinding it out, with 2 of the most offensively gifted players in the league and a solid D. I do feel we are gonna be okay. But I also feel that if we deal MoT, it will be for a "rotation" player and although it would be beneficial, I am strangely semi-comfortable with our Pf and Pg situation. When Sura needs a spell in the playoffs and T-mac is not bringing the ball up, Ward is not going to add anything special but atleast I feel he will be adequate. He knows what he needs to do and will hit the 3 with consistency. Although a backup pf with solid rebounding and blocking skills would also be nice, I think Padgett will spread the floor and provides some underrated defense and rebounding. I think that these 2 players, while not ideal, are going to do fine. I see this team as being geared up to make a run at the championship.
Ward was one of the main reasons the Rox got off to a 6-11 start. He couldn't shoot, play defense, lead a fast break, & rebound worth a d@mn. It's a shame that Sura wasn't ready to play at the start of the season coz the Rox could be sitting in the #4 or #5 seed right now.
Ward has always been a decent-good 3pt shooter. I think most of his struggles early were related to his injury. I think he can be a contributer in the playoffs getting the minutes that are going to Strickland and Barrett.
I agree with SM, I dont think he is useless, but I dont think he is a starter either. I believe he will be adequate. Sura has proved he is a capable starter, and I think Ward will provide a nice change of pace. Granted though, he is nothing beyond capable.
I was hoping for this when he signed, and yet he came out and proved that he did nothing but hurt us while on the court. I'd be happy if we could cut him and use his roster spot for an NBDL pg..... Evan
He's nothing to write home about, but sufficent as an 11th or 12th man. No worse than a Pete Chillcut or Granville Waiters.
So I guess the question is (if Ward is healthy), who should be the backup PG behind Sura? The way Strickland has played i would actually have Ward out there. My reason being that he can atleast hit the 3 pt where as Strickland cant even make 15 foot jumpers.
Did someone mention Granville Waiters? Dude could really bring it Actually, I feel bad for Mo. While never living up to expectations (especially the ludicrous contract) he always seemed to be at the least a positive contributor and an above average 6th man. Still no sooner does dude go on IR, the team starts on a roll. I see the logic in it, but hope we won't trade him for a second round pick and a six pack Lone Star. Should Howard go down, I bet Mo would really shine given the chance to be a saviour. Oh well..... So long Mom - burn one for me, bro
I think we've established that Ward was at least solid before he got injured (which was very quickly), and a big reason for the crappy start post-injury. If he AND Sura can somehow both stay healthy in the playoffs (even if Ward is back, I don't see them both staying healthy...but I wish), I'd be fine w/that at point also.
Ward is done...I would rather bring back Matt Maloney or Sedale TThreatt. I think Ward has a guaranteed contract through next year with a team option for a 3rd year. Worthless anti semitic....
