What about Drexler's BBQ? I have never eaten there and was wondering if it was good. Also, I hear Harlan's BBQ is good as well. I think they have one in the Houston Galleria.

Drexlers is ok. Its no Goode Company.
    I miss Goode Company.

Virgils BBQ on Times Square mentions Goode Company BBQ in its Hall of Fame.

    Mmm, Health Camp.

The best thing I've ever eaten at a BBQ restaurant was a combo sandwich at Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City. They throw a piece of bread down, then your first meat (pork for me), a scoop of sauce, another piece of bread, your second meat (brisket for me), a scoop of sauce, then the last piece of bread. A handful of fries are thrown on top and the entire concoction is wrapped up in some fly paper. It's amazing.

County Line is pretty good, even if it is pricey. Their ribs are amazing. Ruby's is okay, but darned expensive for the quality. The Salt Lick is horrible, and Rudy's is darned inconsistent on everything but turkey. I'd rather have Pokey Joe's than either of those places.

But the best que in Austin has to be Tom Mueller's on Manor Road. It's not even close.

OK, someone tell me where to eat tonight. I live basically at Woodhead and Westheimer. Point me in the direction of the best BBQ within a 10 minute drive.

    Gracias.

    Goode Co.
    Otto's
    Luling City

I haven't been to Huntsville in years, but Mt. Zion Baptist Church was the bomb. Oh how good it smelled everytime I drove by there.

I used to live at Woodhead and Sul Ross.

    Goode Company's the closest.

I'd say Luling City on Richmond just inside the loop is your best bet tonight.

I'm not sure if Pizzatolas is open on saturday night but I know Luling City is.

Oh Hickory Hollow on Waugh just to the north of Washington.

Thats a good one. We stop there everytime we're in that part of Texas.

Theres another meat market in Giddings that we stop at when we're in town. I forgot the name of it though.

I've been to Gates BBQ in Kansas City several times. In my opinion its average at best.

As for in Houston I like Burns BBQ in Acres Homes. But you cant beat doing it yourself.

    Best in Houston: Goode Co.

Best outside of Houston: Cooper's (Llano). I live about an hour away from it. Could be a lot worse.

Runner-up: Luling City Market (Luling... not too far off I-10 if you're going from Houston --> San Antonio. Everyone who's not a vegetarian should try it. Great brisket.)

    Another runner-up: Louie Mueller's (Taylor)

The following places are decent and have good variety and side dishes:
    -Black's (Lockhart)
    -Pokey Joe's

I believe the following places are overrated:

Kreuz Market... nothing but meat, and not that spicy. It's just like standing in a long line to eat a big chunk of roast. Some of us like side dishes.

    Demeris

Most overrated of all - County Line. I wouldn't feed it to my dog. I couldn't even bear to feed it to a dog I didn't like.

    And now... (Memphis represent)
Comparing Memphis bbq and Texas bbq is like comparing apples and oranges. If you brought North Carolina or KC bbq into the equation, you would have the same issue. For perspective's sake, when I moved to Texas from Memphis, I made fun of the Texans for bbq'ing the wrong animal. "That would have to go in the 'other' category at the Memphis In May contest, along with the bbq'ed squirrel and alligator." Memphis is known for not only ribs but also pulled pork.

The Rendezvous is kind of a tourist destination. The dry ribs are the best. (My father just bought the dry rub and learned how to make them at home... and save money.) Try Corky's.

Corky's has great sauce. When I used to go to Memphis in May back in my Vandy days, we would bring a case back with us.

My favs when I lived in Houston was Goode and Ottos. I lived less than 5 minutes away from Goode when I lived in Houston. I always ate there a few times a week. ;)

I like the meat, chicken and jalapeno cheese bread at Goode Co.
I like the slaw, bbq sauce, chopped beef sandwiches and beans from Demeris

I don't eat a lot of bbq, so I can't help too much...

One of my favorite sites out there. Really a great resource to find the good spots around Houston.
