Just wanted to ask the locals where they thought had the best BBQ in Houston. It is ALL head and shoulders above anything I have ever tried, but I wanted to get opinions on some of the better or best places?
while we are at it.. who is thought of as having best bbq in the world? someone from memphis was telling me if you go to memphis you have to eat bbq etc etc etc.. is memphis thought of as having better bbq than texas?
Memphis having better bbq than Texas? Somebody needs a good talking-to. They don't even know the proper animal to cook over there! The best bbq in Texas is located in Lockhart, TX. There are 3 outstanding places there. Lockhart is straight south of Austin, or Northeast of San Antonio. BBQ in general is a highly contentious subject based largely on personal preference, though.
Memphis, Texas, St. Louis, and Kansas City. I have all heard people from these regions claim they have the best BBQ in the world. I have heard many claim that Behad makes the best BBQ on this board though.
There is a place in Katy called Nomachers(SP?) BBQ its been there for about 20 years, best BBQ I have EVER had...It's kinda a dump like Thelma's, but boy is it good..
bigtexx.. yeah no kidding.. they were talking about they have the world championship bbq cookoff in memphis.. I'll stick with Texas, we have a few cookoffs ourselves
I had ribs at that real famous place in downtown Memphis and wasn't all that impressed, especially for the price. Rendevouz or something like that.
You won't get a good brisket anywhere outside of Texas. The best BBQ joints in Texas are: Southside Market, Elgin TX. Kreuz Market, Lockhart TX Both places will serve only the meat on butcher paper. They don't have bread, cole slaw, potato salad, or BBQ sauce, just straight meat. If you're in Austin, my favorite spots are The County Line by the Lake (down the street from me), Rudy's, Salt Lick (Driftwood, not 360), and Ruby's.
Whatever happened to Demeris' barbeque? That was my favorite when I was younger and lived in Houston. It's making my mouth water right now, just thinking about it.
Best I've ever had is at Mt. Zion Baptist church in Huntsville, TX. Unbelievable BBQ. Behad does make a mean brisket, very very good. Good Co is pretty good, but I've only been there once. I actually think Papas bbq is good stuff, even though it's a chain. I've heard there is a place in Alvin called Joe's that is supposed to have great bbq, but I've never been there.
I'm an expert on the subject of Houston BBQ joints. For Pork Ribs 1. Williams Smoke House 2. Pappas BBQ 3. Pizzatola's 4. Luling City 5. Thelma's 6. BBQ Inn 7 Goode Co. 8 Ottos 9 Hickory Hollow 10 Drexlers Chicken 1. Pizzatolas 2. Luling City Brisket 1. Luling City 2 Goode Co 3 Williams Smoke House 4 Thelma's 5 Ottos Sauce 1. Williams Smoke House 2. Ottos Last place Luling City (too much mustard in the sauce for my taste) I'd give Williams the title over best overall in Houston. Best I've had outside of Houston is Cooper's BBQ in Llano. Great Ribs and a Super Porkchop.
Its still around. I eat there once a week. Can't belive I forgot to put them on my lists. Good BBQ. Good Sauce.
