I'm sorry but this movie . . SUCKED No way this movie should beat RAY This was depressing but it just didn't seem to go anywhere Rocket River I want those 8 hours back
I still havent seen it but I wouldnt be too suprised if its that underwelming. It got such crital acclaim that the hype would seem hard to live up to. So far Twilight Samurai is my favorite of 2004.
I enjoyed most of the movie, but it got to be so sad. I don't mind movies that are sad, but this one just seemed to be created just to put us in a depression. It's definitely an affective movie. I think that Morgan Freeman and Clint made the movie during it's best parts. I could have handled the sadness if it hadn't dragged out so long with no real silver lining to the tragedy. Even though I thought that it was a good movie, I definitely will never watch it again.
I liked it a lot. Yes, there was a lot of hype, just like with "Sideways." But I thought it was deserved. If you can ignore the hype for what it is and just see the movie....easier said than done, I guess. Great acting. Good story. The cat is out of the bag as far as, at least, the sadness of the story; I haven't been so sad in a movie since....uh, since.....well, never. I did get irritated at all the conservative movie critics who came out of the theater screaming, "I thought it would be a female Rocky! Guess what happens at the end, I'll tell you!" Well, kiss my walnuts, people. I would have asked for the SAME thing if I had been that character. Sorry, but that's just the way it is.
I think this movie basically got good reviews because it's not your typical hollywood movie with a happily ever after ending. The movie was a lil slow.
Not exactly the "feel good" movie of the year. A lot of extremes, hard to follow and believe, remember the family?
That's why I didn't like it as much. The family and the other female boxer were just over-the-top evil. It's gonna sweep besides Best Actor, IMO.
great acting, yes. the screenplay was less than pedestrian, if you ask me, the bits with clint and the priest were the best parts. too long and too cliche overall.
RR... 8 hours? I haven't seen the movie yet, but if it's a tragedy, I don't know why anyone would expect a silver lining or happy ending. Another Clint movie that was slow and sad was The Unforgiven, and I loved that. I'm looking forward to seeing this but I think I can wait for the DVD.
Personally I feel that Million Dollar Baby isn't worth nearly as much acclaim as it's getting. It's certainly well acted, tightly written, and nicely directed. But the main drama of the film is in territory that's been explored in film before. And I just didn't respond to it. I mean they had a similar moral choice in an episode of the X-Files for crissakes. Granted that was dealing with alternate realities and doubles from another dimension, but the dilemma was pretty much the same. And the boxing scenes with Maggie are pretty farfetched. Numerous two second knock outs. This girl goes from complete boxing novice to title shot in one year. If it wasn't for the fact that this was "women's" boxing, (and let's face it, if you've ever seen women's boxing, most of them pretty much suck at it) it would be completely ludicrous. I felt that Sideways was better. And my favorite movie of the year, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind was pretty much shutout from the Academy Awards. This was easily the best movie I've seen all year. I hate how the Academy can't remember films from over 3 months back.
