I have not seen much improvement in 610. They are still stacked with not so intelligent personalities. I do not want to listen to radio heads I know the game and updates more than. I do not want to listen to radio heads who can hardly make coherent takes. The sad story here is that only "The voice" and MattJ are the only listen-able and bearable ones. Go figure. Sometimes I wish I can listen to CharlieP more than 4 hours daily. In Houston he is #1 and there is no one worthy of being called #2 or #3 behind him. Heck I those guys that host the 2 hour show on Saturdays might be the best duo 610 has. Wish them the best though.
CP is overbearing and overopinionated. MJax is small market talent, at best. Rich is the quintessential sidekick. LZ is a brat. The best is Grannato. What does that say?
It all just depends on what you are looking for in a radio personality. I think we have an excellent mix. Adam "Sexy Wexy" Wexler rejoining us starting Monday will add to the mix and I've siad it before and I'll say it again; Charlie is not the end all be all of sports knowledge and lore. A-Dubya is every bit as knowledgable as CP and he's 10 years younger. I'd rather have Wexler any day of the week.
Just my opinions. (BTW - back when he seemed to care, Russ was excellent. Back when he seemed to care...)
after making 3 trades and trading away 2 of last year's starters, pgab. this team has won 8 in a row and are playing tons better. interest is far higher. sorry about that, steve...i mean pgabs.
I think there should be a thread somewhere with a poll about the best radio personality in Houston, but my bet would be on Charlie P being the most respected radio personality. However, I think Charlie P now is cursed with bad hosts/inability of his new station to get guests on their shows that are half as interesting as those on 610. I have found myself lately listening to 610 a lot more than before, because of all the Rockets talk. Matt J is a bonafide homer, which I am OK with, but I find him entertaining, although that is it: entertaining. I would not go to Matt J for sports knowledge/opinions. I listen to him to be entertained, which is really all one should expect at that time slot. I like Rich a LOT, I think back when Charlie was paired with him they were BY FAR the best radio sports show PERIOD. (including the nationally-syndicated guys). The chemistry and interaction between Charlie and Rich was just as good as you could ask for. But now with Marc Van, I don't get that intensity and passion from him, he seems to be much less interested in Houston sports, especially Rockets, probably because he is a football guy. He just sounds bland most of the time, and is a bit too nice to be a radio personality, I would much prefer a more edgy personality like Charlie's. But hey, at least Rich is still around, that still gives me incentive to tune in once in a while. So if I rank local radio sports personalities, it would be as follows: 1) Charlie P 2) Rich 3) Matt J 4) John & Lance (they are about equal, they work well together) 5) Marc Van (I don't like him at all, but hey, I have to include him)
1. Rich- knowledgable and professional 2. Matt J- knowledgable and he's a fan 3. John G.- not as knowledgable but professional and works well with Lance 4. Lance- little know it all but works well with Grenado 5. Mark V- Still sounds like a transplant- must become a Texan 6. Jeremy- funny guy 7. Charlie P- Way to high on himself- knowledgable but acts like it. arrogant up east sports think tank type who never admits a mistake or changes an opinion even when it is the obvious thing to do. Chance- BBS member who does something for money at 610
Did anyone see Bull last night on Dream Job? ESPN aired the show at 6:00 instead of at 9:00 as was listed. Because of that, I only caught JR Reid breaking something down. What exactly JR was analyzing, I don't know, because he was abso-f'n-lutely horrible. I'm hoping Bull put up a better showing,
Bullard wasnt bad. And the judges thought he was pretty good. Bulls problem is that he is kinda "dry." He needs to loosen up a bit and be more relaxed. But he didnt stumble on any of his words and the reading flowed alright. If Bullard can bit a bit more animated and relaxed I think he will win it.
