Sec of State Can Ignore Late Recounts in Florida

    When was the deadline for asking for the second recount? When was it asked for?

    If the popular vote was that close -- and mattered -- then yes, a full recount of the country would probably be in order. Bush's 0.008% lead in Florida is well within the margin of statistical error from automated counts. Notice that the first automated recount changed the margin by 0.025%

    However, Gore currently leads Bush nationally by 0.25%, or about 30 times the current margin in Florida. In equivalent terms, the Florida margin is like a 8,000 vote lead nationally. Similarly, the national margin is like a 15,000 vote lead in Florida.

    I would hope there would be a recount in that situation...
