I'm from Houston. I don't mind...I've probably heard them all....so, go ahead post them. Just make sure you put one of these " ;) " next to them. I'm sure that R2K will forgive you! :)

heh....he has more to fear that Jeff will see this unabashed Houston bashing and come in here and dismantle the myths with a 1000 word post full of facts pointing out the great things about Houston.

Contrary to the stuff said earlier in the thread...

Houston isnt near as bad as some of these Yankees(anyone north of Huntsville) are saying....

the crime rate has drastically reduced from years ago
the pollution is ever present, but once again...what do you expect out of one of the largest ports and industrial areas in the US?
the traffic is not as bad as some make it out to be....the major congestion is only in cetain areas(Galleria, West Loop).....I can get from my home in Baytown(35 miles east of downtown) to the TC in right at 30 minutes...at 5:30...

I drove thru downtown from the area above 10 and 45 to the TC to get my tickets from willcall in the middle of a workday....and ran into very little traffic....took me about 10 minutes...

DOwntown is being revitalized bigtime...I was surprised by how nice it was looking down there...

this aint your fathers Houston anymore.....they have been working very hard to clean it up and make it a nice place to work and play...and are succeeding.

Dont believe everything you hear....come check it out for yourself....I think you will like it....I know lots of NBA players think enough of it that they live here...(last count I heard was right around 25 not including Rockets players)

btw...Christmas in Houston?? it is great if you dont want the snow...the temperatures range from 40-70 and there are tons of nice neighborhoods with lighting displays, and lots of activites inside the Loop that are guaranteed to get you in the Christmas spirit....and last but certainly not least.....the ROckets play during December....

Dont believe the myths....we got great food, great people nad the best damn basketball team on the planet...:D

looks nice and bright. I usually don't like places that are really dark with barely any windows...can't tell if the dishes and stuff are dirty:p

No buffet, but they do need a little something to satisfy Houston's famously goofy aesthetic.... would you care for a Shanghai Shake with your duck? Yes? Would that be leechee or jalapeno?

Do Yao's parents have some kind of a work visa to do business in the US? Was that part of the arrangement when Yao came over? If they're not American citizens or have some type of work permit, how are they able to legally open up a restaurant here?

I'm not trying to be anti-immigrant here or anything, I'm just curious how it's done.

Easy. They just invest some (Yao's) money in the restaurant. You can get green card this way very easily.

Why would they need a work visa for opening a restaurant and creating jobs here? They're investing money as owners so typical work visa requirements don't apply to them.

    Agreed.

I'm a manager at a chinese restaurant in Angleton, Brazoria County and I can not stand chinese buffet restaurants. I admit, my restaurant has an all-day buffet, but we all absolutely hate it. Most people where I live just freak out when they have to order off the menu.... who knows why.

    http://uscis.gov/graphics/services/residency/investment.htm

Under section 203(b)(5) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), 8 U.S.C. ยง 1153(b)(5), 10,000 immigrant visas per year are available to qualified individuals seeking permanent resident status on the basis of their engagement in a new commercial enterprise.

Alot of their furniture looks oftley familiar. Go to Suede in Downtown they have the same stools etc...

I guess my partner is importing furniture from the same place in china as Yao's Parents.

Actually Yao's parents are not the sole proprietor of the restaurant.

The initial investment is around US$ 1.5M...and split between Yao's parents and a couple of their friends

Wang Dayang...52 years old, the taller one with the spectacles...an old team mate of Yao's Dad back in his players' day.

Yu Di.... 44 years old, a Chinese restaurant owner in Houston (the one to the left)

Fu Jilin....48 years old, a Cambodian-Chinese, owner of 3 to 4 of the famous Fu Gardens in Houston. (the one in blue shirt)

They were the one who were responsible for the design, the supervision of construction and preparation and the hiring of chefs and training of the waitors/waitresses of the restaurant.
