Well if thats the case its a sham. We don't want any Rocket winning that cheap ass reward. anyways, mr. guts probably doesn't want the glory of rewards. It'd probably soften him and he'd want his teammates to run over and help him up off the hardwood when he falls. I hope that never happens.
Well, Grant Hill was once a NBA superstar, and there really isn't much room to improve from that... I agree that if there was an award for best comeback this year... it sure wouldn't be Penny Hardaway winning it. Anyways, in all of Bob Sura's career... when have you heard analysts, critics, writers riding Bob Sura's monkey as much as they have been in the past few weeks. Everytime I hear the Rockets being mentioned.. it's because of the "superb play of Bob Sura", it's because Bob Sura is "such an important piece to this team". Someone mentioned Gilbert Arenas (who actually won the award one year while he was playing for Golden State) and seeing that he has already won it once, I don't think they'll award it to him again. Yes, I am familiar with Bob's Sura triple double games last year with Atlanta (I picked him up for my fantasy team) but take this into consideration: after trading away Shareef and some injury troubles to Terry... this team was led by Sura, Stephen Jackson, and JASON COLLIER . Even the Pillsbury Doughboy was averaging 11.3 ppg and 5.6 rpg! By no means do I believe Bob Sura is actually gonna win it, but I really do think he should be considered.
Yeah. Well. He wasnt a Houston Rocket then. Thats the type of award they give out to Orlando players because Disney World is there and its a Disney type of award. Houston Rocket players do not get cheap rewards like most improved player. Only people who hang out at Disney world can apperciate an award like that. 'Strad, you know what, I think Minnie Mouse draped it around his neck that year at halftime. Thats probably why Mcgrady wanted to get the hell outta there and come to Houston.
what? you got something against greasers? notice all the greasers of the NBA are gritty tough guys. Pat Riley. Bob Sura. Uh......ok thats only two but notice theres a pattern developing there...
Most Improved and Comeback were different awards, now only the most improved exists. No way Sura gets it, it will go to Bobby Simmons, Dan Dickau, Primo Brezec, or someone like that, Sura was pulling near-triple doubles last year. I don't really like the award because it is essentially someone that was riding the bench the year before and is now getting four or five times the minutes (i.e. Brezec, Dickau) Stuart
They should have a "Most Overlooked Player" award. Then again, I suppose that's impossible, by definition.
moligity and Sherlock are confused on the Grant Hill talk. Guaranteed - Grant Hill WILL NOT win "most improved" player award. If there is an award like "comeback player of the year" award (an ESPY maybe?), then he will be 'eligible'. So lets leave Grants name outta this one. The leading candidates now are Arenas, Amare, Simmons, Sura, Lebron, Simmons, Wade, "Turk-glue" and Gooden.
Do y'all think Arenas will really win the award twice? He's already proved himself as a talented player in the league in the last couple of years.. he's improved but he's not the most improved. I agree with Simmons and Amare as being 2 of the leading candidates. Lebron? Nah, he's already a superstar and everybody already knew it from last season... I don't think the NBA will throw him this "second rate award". Dan Dickau = "Flip" Murray of the Sonics last year.. came alive when Ray Allen was injured and disappeared when he came back. Once the Baron comes back, Dickau will go back to being the damn jobber he was along with Nachbar. Turkoglu = candidate for sixth man. Don't see him winning MIP. I also woulda said Rafer Alston had it not been for his bad media attention and the bad rep he is getting... he was having a career season. Brezec has also shown he can be a serviceable big man (on a crappy team; and also, playing "Reece Gaines"-like minutes in Indiana last season)
I love Sura, but he wont take this award. He was putting up the numbers he is getting now on the Hawks last year. But of course they are much more meaningful this year because he is doing it on a winning team. Here is the case for Bobby Simmons though. http://proxy.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?id=1992668
Arenas has already won the award and no way does a second year player (Wade, LeBron) win the award. Bobby Simmons is the leader so far. Precisely. Stuart
Maybe not MIP. However, Sura has had a great season so far. He is even able to make some nice passes inside recently instead of kicking the ball out for 3s. The main thing that I like Sura is his toughness. Both Yao and TMac are quite ones (not necessarily soft) at least on the court. We need someone vocal and tough minded on the court and Sura fits in that bill nicely.
