Seeing what the two sides ultimately came to a stalemate over... its pretty damn frustrating.

The players waited too long to cave in for the cap, and the owners (once they finally got the cap) decided that it had to be only a certain number... both sides being pretty inflexible.

Sorry, but I don't miss hockey at all. I like not having it take up Sportscenter time.

Hey, there's always Movie Night in Canada now! :(

I'm American through and through but I've always had a blast in Canada, BC and the Yukon in particular. Despite being a Canucks fan one of my favorite NHL memories is sitting in a B&B living room in Dawson City, Yukon, last May and watching the Flames playoff run on CBC with a group of Canadians and drinking Molson.

    Good times. Sigh.

I love the NHL playoffs. I don't miss the regular season. But I will miss the playoffs.

I'm glad the season was cancelled. Hopefully this can ensure that the NBA owners and players association avoid a similar fate.

The playoffs in the NHL are the best part of it, IMO. However, it seemed like every playoff game would go into overtime which would mean that I would have to wait and wait and wait for baseball tonight or sportscenter to come on.

Not good when you don't like waiting like me. :p

I'm a huge hockey fan (CBJ) and honestly I was glad they finally cancelled it.

neither party negotiated until the last 24 hours. They both got what they deserved.

Everyone in hockey knew it was coming (a year without hockey). I had a conversation back in May with the GM of the Blue Jackets and he told me "off the record" that there wouldn't be a season next year. I asked him about starting in January and his response was I doubt it.

So I'll be glad when it's back but for now screw them all, just get my season ticket money back ASAP.

my concern is next year. there will be very little urgency now that the season is cancelled. i heard Gretzky express the same sentiments. this gets shelved and nothing gets done..and the lack of progress hurts momentum further.

I could easily see the lockout lasting into next season....wouldnt shock me in the least.

Goodenow is a dope....Bettman is a dope...the NHL is close to extinction IMO.....and this is coming from a fan

This is the right time for WWE owner Vince McMahon to create the XHL and take advantage of the NHL's canceled season. The only reason Vince McMahon's XFL failed is because the NFL players & owners were not on strike or in a lockout. In the XHL, the games will be played on a roller hockey rink instead of playing on ice and the players will be wearing roller skates instead of ice skates.

I've heard this before, but I don't get it. Playoffs are the best competition in any sport. Why would NHL playoffs be better than any other sport, unless you already favor hockey to the other sport? It's still hockey, right?

overtime...happens more often. more series' go down to the wire (game 7's) and everything gets moreso grittier than other sports playoffs. IMO at least. but yeh, it's my favorite sport all year round - so that doesn't really prove anything.
