I just caught the end of the LIVE news conference. Apparently, the other three districts didnt show any odd movements. But Palm Beach gave Gore a plus 33 and Bush a plus 14, for a difference of 19. That gives them enough of an idea to count the entire county.
It took them 9 hours to count ONE district. I think they said there was 540 districts they want to count. Either that or they counted ONE percent of that county. Like I said, I caught the end of it so I cant be for sure what exactly they counted. I dont know how long that will last, but wow.

Funny thing is they announced the tally for double punched tickets. Sorry to say, but those people are IDIOTS. Some people voted for four or five presidents. Others voted for 7 or 8. So suffice it to say I dont think it was just Gore-Buchanan that was overpunched. Some of the tallys were so outrageous it blew my mind that people were actually wasting a vote to vote for five or six candidates for president.

Anyway, the old lady was a mean old b****. Kept blurting out and interrupting.... The chaiman needs to grow a set of balls to deal with her, and FAST.

That said, I still dont think we should be trying to find someones INTENT, on how they MEANT to vote. The Canvassing committee is meeting 10 AM on Monday. The Democratic appointed Judge will throw out Bush injunction at 9AM. For you Gore supporters, looks like you got your wish. Apparently every vote Doesnt matter, it only matters if it is for him.

Oh, yeah.. They told us the number corresponding to the candidate that got punched. So the guy might say:
    '3,4,7,8,11,13 had ?? votes'
When I listened I was think Bush was 1, Buchanan was 2, and Gore was 3, but after looking at the ballot I see that isnt it.
I remember 3,4 had some votes, but that is Bush-Buchanan
From what I remember a majority of the double punched ballots were for three or more candidates. It was almost laughable. In fact, the people announcing it had to stifle a chuckle or two..

By the way, all three members of this canvassing committee for this county are Democrats. I thought I'd mention it before someone else did since it's bound to be brought up.

They're talking about precincts, by the way, rather than districts. And these are all precincts within Palm Beach County.

A precinct can actually be pretty darn small. I think my precinct is only a block or two wide. We probably have a few hundred people in it because of it being filled with apartments, but that's still not very many people overall. (I remember trying to find my precinct on a giant map, and it was a pain in the posterior).

If it's going to take 9 hours to handcount each precinct, we might as well write off that county because they aren't going to make the Tuesday at 5pm deadline. But I don't think each precinct is actually going to take that long. But they may end up cutting it very close.

Funny you mentioned that last part. I remembered seeing that somewhere before. I cut and pasted it below:

Bob Crawford, who replaced Gov. Jeb Bush as commissioner of Florida's Canvassing Commission, said Saturday that if a county misses the state's deadline for certifying results, the entire county's vote will be thrown out.

"The statute is very clear that if a county's results are not to us by 5 p.m. Tuesday we shall ignore that county's vote, and the counties need to be very aware of that," Crawford told reporters. "Candidates asking for recounts need to be aware of that."

The above two paragraphs are from another article. I just wonder what they are going to do? If they want to manually recount the whole county, and arent starting until 10AM Monday, I dont think they will get done by 5PM Tuesday. So do they take their chances and TRY to get done, or just go with the results already. I imagine that since Bush is ahead statewide in the official poll, that he would only widen his margin if Palm Beach is thrown out all together.
Man, this is some amazing stuff we are seeing.

Here's another line from a CNN story that interests me. It says:

"Also on Sunday, Volusia County began its hand recount of more than 184,000 votes. The process is expected to take at least three days."

Since they have to certify by Tuesday at 5pm, how are they going to take "at least" three days to complete the count?

    mrpaige,

I think that those doing the manual recount are under the impression that they aren't covered, for whatever reason by the 5p.m. deadline (that's at least what one of the council members said).

    So much hearsay, agghghghghgh!!!

ABC News just reported that the deadline is solid and will be enforced, according to the Florida Secretary of State's office. The Commissioner of the Florida Canvassing Commission has said the same thing to CNN.

The law says the counties have to certify by 5pm Tuesday. It makes no exception for when there are handcouts underway. If they don't certify by Tuesday at 5pm, the County doesn't count.

So really, these handcounts are a waste of time. There's no way Pal Beach County can handcount all their ballots before Tuesday at 5pm.

Ok, not to start anything here, but where are you getting those numbers?

From what CNN said, of that 1 percent hand count, Gore recieved (something like) 65 more votes, and Bush recieved something like 14 more votes. Thats about 80 votes found in counting only 1 percent. Id say that that is significant enough to warrant a hand count.

I think I forgot to mention that they said was that the machines worked fine and that the problems with the ballots were Voter Error.
