Sheldon Williams of course. 16 ppg 12 rpg 3.8 bpg .The guy leads the nation in blocks AND rebounds!! He's 6-9;6-10, and is a beast in the paint. And keep in mind he got those numbers in the ACC, argueably the toughest conference in the NCAA.
NBAdraft.net have us picking two guards in the first and second rounds. In ths first they have us selecting John Gilchrist and in the second one Travis Diener (a Marquette senior PG). I do not mind having Gilchrist though if we can sign or trade for a solid PF in the offseason. I believe Spanoulis will be on the roster next season and I hope Badiane is as well.
Gilchrist's size and strength kinda reminds me of Wesley. Unless a decent PF is available, Gilchrist would be a great pickup.
I think Warrick is going to be a lottery pick, although the projected # given on this thread has him at #16. I think he'll move up after they measure his vertical and wingspan, he's an athletic freak. Anyways, I'd definitely take a chance on him if he were available when we pick.
Its not fair to judge on one game, I watch a lot of Pac-10 ball and Frye has been a tremendous force on the inside. He has a variety of moves in the post and is a good rebounder as well. What may deter me from taking him is that he doesnt seem to be as athletic as a Chandler or Swift, the type of 4 that many people here want. As for Diogu I expect him to go higher in the draft if he comes out this year, the man is probably the best big man in the Pac-10 today. He has been developing range to shoot from the outside (he hit some shots, including a 3, against ucla on thursday) He fights for position and is a good rebounder as well. If Diogu is around when the rockets are up to pick, i would be surprised to see CD and Les pass him up considering the needs of this team. Also Brandon Roy at washington is developing into a nice prospect, he doesnt get much recognition or put up huge numbers on that team, but there is a lot of talent in this kid and he can be a very solid player in the nba imo.
Frankly speaking, I don't any of these kids, with the exception of Bogut, who IMO will go No. 1 overall and play center in the league. This upcoming draft is really all about potential. There are too many Euro teenagers who could either turn out to be Dirk Nowitzki or Mirsad Turckan (remember him?). Beside, I just don't see a rookie thrive in JVG's system. I'd trade the pick for a veteran PF if the opportunity presents itself.
This draft is loaded with PG prospects. I would much rather keep the pick and draft a solid PG and use our MLE, TE's, etc on acquiring a PF.
That video tells me nothing about Bogut. It didn't show anything about him playing D. Also when do you ever see a white guy playing good D in the NBA anyway??? Except Scott Pollard, i mean what are the chance that you're going to see a white guy playing good defense??? Very slim chances. I wouldn't take my chances.
Hakim Warrick or Ryan Gomes - The two best players in the Big East. Warrick has as much athletic ability as anyone in baseball. He can dunk in the low post from outside the paint. He's relentless and is quick. His long arms makes him impossible to defend. He's only 6'8", and teams may want him to move to SF, but I think he would be successful at PF. Gomes is an All-American PF with a big body. He can step out and hit the three as well as dominate down low.
Gomes and Warrick are tweeners. Here's a name that hasn't been said yet: Eric Williams from Wake Forest. He plays center for them right now but has a PF skillset and is an absolute BEAST. He'd be a great bruiser next to Yao.
Channing Frye because he's got the build to play backup center, he can easily put on more weight & he's a senior. Now I say this before some of the underclassmen declare for the draft. That might change things a little.
I'm praying that Travis Diener will be there in the second round. As far as PFs, I think Turiaf would be the best bet around our pick.
I want some one who is athletic enough and can bang/defend. I hope Sheldon Williams will be available but he might go too high for us. Turiaf is a good scorer and probably would be the best 4 available for us but is a finesse player. He can rebound and tries to block shots but he lacks lateral quickness and isn't a good perimeter defender.
