good point. no games seem easy, but i do believe we can beat anyone. we should be the blazers though. here's hoping there is no letdown.

    Portland(20-28) @ Houston(30-21)

Those early season troubles the Houston Rockets endured may have been worth it.

Houston looks to win seven straight games for the first time in almost six years when it hosts the Portland Trail Blazers, losers of six straight on the road.

After a 113-106 loss at Dallas on Dec. 2, the Rockets were 6-11 and struggling to make the new All-Star combination of Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming work. Since then, however, Houston is 24-10 and has worked itself back into the playoff picture in the very competitive Western Conference.

McGrady, the reigning NBA scoring champ, has settled into his role as the team's top scorer, Yao has emerged from an early season slump and guard Bob Sura has finally recovered from offseason back surgery to become the team's floor leader. The acquisitions of David Wesley and Jon Barry from two of the league's worst teams in late December have provided Houston with intensity and veteran toughness.

Sura scored 17 points, McGrady added 16 and the Rockets held Indiana to a single point in the final seven minutes for their sixth consecutive win, 91-83 on Friday.

Yao had 16 points and Juwan Howard contributed 14 points and 12 rebounds for Houston, which hasn't won seven in a row since a nine-game run from March 16-30, 1999.

``It's a good win on the road, a big win for us.'' Sura said. ``I think we held them to 13 points in the fourth. So our defense was pretty good down the stretch. Offensively, we're starting to click and I hope we keep it up.''

Almost all the Rockets are currently playing well, but particularly Yao and Wesley.

Yao is averaging 20.0 points while shooting 63.0 (57-of-92) percent in his last seven games. Wesley has gone 15-for-20 from 3-point range in his last five contests, and the Rockets are 17-6 since he joined the team in a trade with New Orleans in December.

Houston's next three games are at home leading up to the All-Star break.

A dismal fourth quarter sent the Trail Blazers to their second straight loss, 88-82 at Memphis on Friday.

Zach Randolph had 26 points and 12 rebounds for Portland, which scored only 13 points on 5-of-19 shooting and turned the ball over five times in the final period.

``It's disappointing,'' guard Damon Stoudamire said. ``We should have won that game, but we gave it away.''

Stoudamire and backcourt mate Nick Van Exel missed all 13 shots from the floor in the second half.

The only good news for the Blazers was the return of guard Derek Anderson, who had two points in six minutes after missing seven games because of sinus and dental problems.

Houston has won four straight against Portland.
