    Hey guys,

For those of you who have had sports injuries or those who simply know more that I do in this area:

I have recently been having trouble with my shoulders (both in terms of pain and appearance), and now I have noticed that I have some sort of 'lines' running along that area (they look like some sort of scars or burns). I'm not really sure what they are or how to explain their look, but perhaps it's something obvious so I won't go into trying until there's a post for this.

Anyway, I have also been experiencing a lot of pain when doing things like push-ups and the like. I never had this before.

I'm not sure about the pain, but the marks on your shoulders may be stretch marks. If you're working out really hard, you may be building muscle too fast. (They shouldn't actually hurt though, it's usually just an indicator that you're stretching the skin more rapidly than it can adjust.)

If you don't get any useful info from anyone else and you don't plan on going to a doctor, you should definitely take it easy until the pain subsides.

Are they a lot of small red lines?

If so this happend to a friend of mine when he 1st started working out,he said it was little blood veins that have burst but he didnt have any pain from it besides being sore from working out.

Have you just started working out,if so the pain may be just from soreness, you will get used to it?

Yes, I thought that it would have to do with mine working out but I didn't feel as if I had been taking it on too hard.

Anyway, will these lines go away? If so, how long would it take?

Are they a different color than your skin? If so, I have some on the sides of my knees. I think it's because of the muscle that's growin fast.

Depending on what type of shoulder pain you are experiencing and where....
it could possibly be tendonitis or bursitis

the appearance may be strech marks, as posted.

When I was growing up in high school, I started playing football in ninth grade and begin working out hard for the first time. That is when I started building muscle while, at the same time, I was growing. This is when the stretch marks came. I went to the doc because I was concerned and wanted to get rid of them because they tainted my skin in certain areas, mainly on the sides where your love handles normally are and right above where your arm pits are near the front deltoids on both sides.

Unfortunately, they don't go away. I think you can remove them with laser surgery but I don't think it's worth it. It's just one of those things that some people get. They may have faded some. I pretty much decided that it wasn't worth pursuing getting rid of them as, unless your specifically looking for them, they are hard to see on me. Their definitely stretch marks and almost look like little worms that have burrowed underneath your skin. I thought only pregnant women got stretch marks before that but...guess not.

There was never any pain associated with them, however. That is not normal.

    Ace,

If you experience pain while doing ANY type of exercise, stop doing and see a doctor. I have a friend who was my workout partner about 7 or 8 years ago who used to be a maniac in the weight room. He wouldn't stop until it started to hurt. One day he felt a popping sound in his shoulders, but he just figured it was a popping like you pop your knuckles. He never really felt any pain, but now he can't do a 50 lb. (25 on each arm on machine weights) butterfly curl. That's silly because the guy benches about 350 lbs! Yet he still feels no pain in his shoulders.

The lines you're talking about sound like stretch marks and short of special surgery, I don't know of any way to permanently get rid of them. They're usually caused by rapid weight gain.

But again, you should see a doctor and not accept our opinions 'cause we're just loser sports fans... [IMG] Besides, it could be something more serious.

A friend of mine graduated from law school in May, and he's had a heck of a time finding work....He might be a moron, though. (I don't think he is, but one never knows. He was a moron when we were five years-old.) -- mrpaige reflects on his friends
