There's been a lot posted about Firefox here so I thought this Wired cover story would be of some interest. http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.02/firefox.html
Great POST. I freakin' hate that JAVA crap they can't get right... WHAT GIVES??? I'm a FireFox guy now... sorry, Netscape, I gave you my heart and you took it... should I start an "Advice Needed, I don't know what browser I love" thread? A-la "girl advice needed"...
Firefox: It's clean, it's cool,....it's got the high-speed reliable web browsing mojo! I love it because it's like browsing the web back in the early days - except no pop-ups and you get tabs.
FireFox has nice amenities (like the search feature), but I do find issues with it on some web sites. It also does not always have a 'save as' option on the popup when I need it, and I do not like that you can only email a link and not the page. I like the tabs also, and I don't get popups with IE either.
nice article. i've been using firefox since last november and, overall, i like it. i do find some sites a bit less functional with firefox compared to IE. this, however, is minor compared to the pleasure of not using a microsoft product. tab browsing is pretty cool too.
The only thing Firefox still doesn't handle well is Java. Anything with an applet for chat or anything like that is very slow to load on Firefox and many of the functions just don't work. But, this isn't really a shock since those things are a pain in the ass most times anyway.
Just thought i'd provide a translation of the original link for posters who prefer ghetto speech. http://sites.gizoogle.com/?url=http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.02/firefox.html
In the Spirit of Valentine's day, I bring you this petty analogy. Netscape is like that b**** you were with for years then one day you decided to finally get rid of her because you couldn't stand all the bull**** anymore and moved on. Firefox is like that sweet new girl that you meet, and she invites you to her house and she cooks for you and then does all the dishes while you watch the game. No popups, No 404s, No heartbreak.
Unfortunately, there are other articles appearing as well. http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-10595_11-5570951.html I'm confident that things will not get as bad as they are with IE. After all, Firefox is more secure than IE by nature. But I hate that the popularity of Firefox is also putting it in a position to draw attention from the authors of spyware. I'm confident that it's not immune to spyware of any type, despite the fact that you sometimes get the impression that it's completely immune when you read articles and such about Firefox. I just hope the Mozilla folks will be able to stay on top of things when they're put to the test. There's no reason at the moment to believe that they won't be able to do so.
Does that make Opera like that plain-looking chick down the street that's got a nice personality, but nobody really talks to? But if it was closing time at the bar and you didn't have another browser to use, you might double click her to surf the web?
I use firefox 99% of the time, but this has me worried. if you use firefox, be sure to run the test....
I've been enjoying FF, but I must admit that it is a bit slower than IE loading pages. There are some other things that FF doesn't seem to do as well as IE, but I might not have everything set just right yet. Whatever the problems it's good to not use a dern Microsoft product for a change.
Eeeek. That is scary. I have Fire Fox, and well.....it failed that test. Scary stuff, considering tall the online banking I do etc. I use FireFox and the MSN explorer. MSN explorer didn't fail the test like my FIreFox explorer did.
