We had some pretty hot male teachers at my school when I was in grade school and high school that just about all the girls seemed to have a crush on. By highschool there were a handful of girls competing to see who could land the oldest boyfriend (I believe the record was 45). We were well aware about the laws involved but were too naive to understand why we were being protected. I think many girls saw statutory rape laws as adult oppression designed to extend the arm of their meddling parents.

I never had a crush on a teacher. Ours were all either old or... not exactly masculine.

That "land the oldest boyfriend" thing is gross. I'm just not attracted to older guys and never saw the point. Ferdinand is the exception, and only because he's always looked and acted a lot younger than his actual age... even still, if I get in another relationship, I'm not doing that again.

On the other hand, if a woman lands a younger man for a change, I find myself thinking, "You go girl." I guess it's just nice to see it going the other way for once. I can see why women might find younger men attractive... but, past a point, they probably won't find us attractive. Maybe for one-night stands, but not for relationships. :(

Ultimately, it's whether you interact as peers or have a warped relationship with an imbalance of power. That's more important than age as a "number". When you get to having high school girls and men in their 40's, it's getting pretty unlikely that they feel like friends and equals around each other...

Underage girls intentionally have sex with older men; it's still rape. If you don't see the validity of statutory rape laws in the first place, ok; but insofar as they are valid, I think they are as important for the protection of boys as they are for the protection of girls.

And, just to clarify, while younger men can be quite attractive, under 18 is too young. :) That's a little weird.

I think a few of my teachers (volleyball coach/personal fitness trainer @ the local gyme) tried to give me one of those naughty looks like.. u know.... and wearing short skirts wasn't helping us get a good education.

one of my teacher (cheerleading coach) sent me a card and picture which was very very strange and possibly sprayed perfume on it, or maybe the card came like that, i dont know..

The main problem I have with this is that statutory rape is completely dissimilar to normal rape.

Rape is a violent crime - and as guys like to say about some chick raping them....well, you can't rape the willing!

This case and the other cases like it would seem to fall more under the realm of child abuse. Of course, I'm sure that the kid in this case would not be claiming that he was a child or that he was abused.

I don't know if I can even argue that the kid was harmed here - I'm sure he wasn't forced or intimidated into anything.

From his perspective, he got lucky. IF she was his first, then how different is she from some random high school chick he would get lucky with? Probably only that she would be better at not getting pregnant.

I think the main possible downside for him is if he got her pregnant and then some court forced him to pay child support for the next 20 years - now THAT I would term assault.

I can't speak for anyone else, but if someone ****-blocked me from doing the hottest teacher around, I'd be pissed! And yes, even more so when I was thirteen. Do you know how hard it is to find hot "women" to do you when you are thirteen?

I say if the kid wants to continue tapping it, then let let him!

BTW, My views would be totally opposite if the genders were switched.;)

I can't find the statistics on this at the moment but I remember hearing that most rape cases are NON-VIOLENT rapes such as date rape, incest, etc. One of the contributing factors to date rape is the perception that if it isn't obviously violent then it isn't rape. If the woman doesn't physically fight back, men often assume it was basicly consentual. But women are usually at an obvious disadvantage in a fight and try to avoid being hurt any further.

Yes, statutory rape is dissimilar to normal rape but I think it is mostly because the victim is too naive to understand how they are being taken advantage of.

At 16 "older" can mean some college kid. And looking at the college kids from the perspective of someone almost 30, I think they look the same age as high school kids.

45 was a bit old. I knew the guy and didn't really see what that girl found so attractive. Come to think of it, even now I wouldn't find a guy like him attractive. Her father didn't live with her, maybe she needed a father figure.

Hmmm. Sadly, I'm "almost 30" too, so I can't just claim that you're older than me (although having your own kid and running a business out of your home might make you older in a sense ;) ). But I'm around college "kids" all day... besides, we have a lot of older-than-average students. So they do seem different from high school. The only thing that looks too old lately is myself in the mirror. :(

I guess I just wasn't aware that 29 was supposed to be that old... and don't worry, it's not just you. A lot of the girls (women, whatever) around here are the same age but have kids... and not just little kids either. They must all have their first one when they're 19. So that's got to change the timetable a little. Yesterday one of them, who's close to my age, saw me run up the stairs with a bunch of heavy bags and said, "I can't believe you're 29 and you still have so much energy." Guess I'm just over the hill, or supposed to be.

(please excuse total derailment of thread :) )

Well considering it is rape for an adult to have sex with a minor, I say it is pretty hard.:p

Good point. In that case, many of us on this board have been "raped." I bet most guys on this board had sex with a woman 18+ when they were 17-.

    Mindless knowledge:

    17 is legal,
    16 is not.

#1 I wonder the percent of adult men who have had sex with adult women when he was a minor later regretted it.

#2 I wonder how many adult women who have had sex with adult men when she was a minor later regretted it.

I suspect the proportion of #1 who regretted it, even with history and perspective, is A LOT less than #2. The physical, social and mental consequences simply are not the same in the two situations and even if the law is techinically the same this is a good reason for why judges should have lots of discretition.

Like snow in Alaska, we should have lots of definions of rape. Those with violence, physical threats (whether carried out or not), and/or physical or mental injury IMO are a whole different class (in terms of penalty) than this boy/women's case.

I mean shoot, in some places a husband could tear, beat and rape his wife and get less punishment than this women with an obviously very willing boy--and that is just wrong IMO.

While I was a minor (under 18) I had sex with one woman who was 22 at the time. I didn't regret it and still don't regret it to this day.
