Watching many NBA games this season on TV at various arenas, I've noticed that some shotclocks have added an audio component. It could be just on TV, but I'm pretty sure they have this thing in arenas such as Dallas and Indy (maybe not Indy I can't remember). But anyhow, the shot clock when it gets to 5 goes "beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, buzzzzzzzzz". Now, with the Rockets playing great Offense nowadays, I guess it's unnecessary...and also because it works for the Home and Away team, there's no strategical advantage...cause both defenses and offenses will be more aware. But I still don't like the thought of the shot clock winding down with the ball in Sura's or Rod Strickland's hands. I don't know... Anyways, so I'm wondering...have the Rockets thought about adding the audio clock? Is it even real or just my imagination. Is this thing spreading nationwide?
I've noticed this too and thought NBA TV had added it themselves to let the viewers know the shot clock was running down. This is a good question, anyone know anything about this?
I have never noticed that beep sound you described. That said I do not like - I don't want such innovation to ruin the fun of 24 seconds shot clock defense. Especially for a defensive team like ours, it will give the other team (or any team) an unfair advantage (or extra help) when the shot clock is winding down.
home team has advantage because the audience can be so loud that opponents cannot hear the clock. But again, Houston fans aren't known for making noises.
I noticed it saturday after watching the Wizard vs Magic game. I thought it was just that game but after we started watching another game on nbatv we finally figured it out...
Its also annoying to me some of the sound effects NBATV pumps in when the graphics pop up...whooshing and popping noises...etc.
