Just looking at the upcoming schedule, and I think we're a reasonable chance of making it to 5th seed in the west! Dallas (having just lost to Chicago) is 31-16, with 4 games leading them into the all-star break. All 4 of those games are on the road, and 3 of the 4 are against reasonably good teams! 11/2 @Sacto 13/2 @Seattle 15/2 @Golden State 17/2 @Phoenix It's entirely possible that they lose 3 of 4, and hit the all-star break at 32-19 Houston, on the other hand, has an "Easter Conference" run to the break. With 4 games, 3 of which are at home, and only 1 against a Western Conference team - Portland.... 9/2 Chicago 11/2 @Indiana 13/2 Portland 15/2 Washington Being the eternal optimist, and considering the high quality of basketball we've been showing of late - it is not entirely inconceivable to see us winning all those games (Washington probably being the hardest). Winning 4 leaves us at the all-star break at 32-21 A big 4 wins would put us extremely close and really set up an exciting chase down the final 31 games!! Anyone else think we can make it?
Even if we are at #5, it will be temporary. I have studied the rest of our schedule very carefully and it's tougher than those for the Grizzles, Wolves, and even LAL. I have no doubt that we can make the playoffs, but it take considerable effort for us to catch the #5 seed. I don't see it. And I think that we match Sonics better than against the Kings especially with the addition of Cat. Also, #5 means a second round date with the Spurs. A date with Spurs in the second round is a kiss of death especially if Karla joins them as expected.
I know that the Spurs are a tough team - but we do have the edge on them this season. And isn't a second round date with anybody better than no-second round date? And is Karla going to make the Spurs so much better because of his awesome ability to perform under pressue? How many times have the Spurs lost in the second round?? Just wondering...
A regular season advantage against the Spurs means nothing. Just ask the Grizzles. Most people will agree that facing the Sonics then the Suns gives us better chance to come out than facing the Kings then the Spurs. We still need to play the Sonics 4 times, Suns 3 times, Spurs twice and Maverick once. The first win against the Spurs was a lucky win that is not gonna happen any time soon. Even if we win tomorrow, we are still 4 games behind the Mavericks. Unless they totally melt down, we won't be better than #6 seed by the end of the season. Realistically, I see us #7 again behind the Grizzles and face the Suns in the first round of the playoff. We will put up a fight and lose in 6.
Indiana and Washington are both good teams. Bulls beat Dallas tonight. I hope we can win these games, but it wont be easy.
Grizzles' wins over Spur in the regular games last season utilized the absence of TD. That was not persuasive.
Points well taken. We will see how we play against the Spurs in the next two times on the road. I will be convinced if we can steal a win there especially with Karla in the line up.
Iam not sure i want the Rockets to get the 5th seed. i would much rather see the Sonics in the first round than the Kings. Kings have more firepower and a better home court advantage than the Sonics. Not to mention they also have alot more playoff experience than the Sonics. If you take a look at our schedule in March (alot of games with alot of back-to-backs and some tough opponents) then i really dont see us moving all the way up to the 5th seed. Right now lets just worry about holding off the Grizzlies for that 6th seed (they are almost as hot if not hotter than the Rockets).
We haven't even played Seattle yet, folks. For all we know, they could rape us several times, like they did last season. Let's see how we play against them on the court before hoping that we face them in the playoffs.
I just watched the movie Ray last weekend and I love the quote from one of the characters in the movie. Think pennies and you will get pennies... Think dollars and you will get dollars! Same applies to almost every aspect of life. Think 6th seed and that is the best we will ever do but if we are of the mindset that we can overtake Dallas then Dallas had better watch out.
I think it is reasonable that we earn the fourth seed. However let's not get ahead of ourselves here. If anything is still in the air it's the top 3 seeds in the west. Who knows how the seeding will work, all we need to do is move up as far as we can......
