Macs are just as vulnerable to that crap as Windows machines are. The difference is an overwhelming majority of people use Windows pc's, so that's what the douches code for.

If there was a massive swing to Macs, that stuff would spread like wildfire.

And no, the Mac Mini isn't priced well. I just built a blazing AMD Athlon 64 3000+ machine with a gig of ram and 320 GB's of HD space for $100 cheaper.

There is absolutely no reason to own a Mac instead of a Windows pc unless you are a professionals graphics artist/designer, video editor, or someone who cares more about aesthetics than function.

Honestly, I am glad we disagree on something, because like pretty much all of your other posts channel my feeling exactly, especially when you go off on The Eagles, which is the funniest thing ever.

Dude, Macs are all about the intangibles. Well, tangibles, too. OSX is like anything good; it takes five minutes of "this is weird" before you get it, and then you realize it totally reigns supreme.

Y'all keep buying Apples... I bought several shares at an average of $17-$20/share... it's around $79 now... :D

P.S. -- lots of misinformation in this thread. Lots of people with partial knowledge and very few that think with an open mind. Most PC and Apple owners are cultists. lol. :)

As a Linux user, I thumb my nose at your Windows Update :)

I prefer the PC platform to the apple because it's cheaper, but I use Linux whenever I can.

i think many of us would buy macs but they just aren't as economic. and personally if im smart i can use a pc for a couple years without any serious issues.

so if mac wants to get popular lower the price. the 'mini' is probably a 250-300 dollar PC. so if someone wants to go for the low end computing why would they dish out the extra few hundred?

See, I'm not a Mac basher. I personally love Macs and think OSX is great. At the same time I think Apples are complete overkill for the average consumer price wise. Until they want to get competitive with priciing, I wil continue to view them as great workstations for professionals and that's about it.

    YEp!!

    me too bro... :D

but...I do also have Windows to deal with since Im the only one in my household that likes LInux...

    but......

I happen to know how to protect my network....the reason why so many ppl have problems described in that barely concealed pile of Mac propoganda is cause they are stupid enough to not take the necessary precautions.

    Virus scan
    Firewalls
    Spyware scanners
    and safe computing practices

these are all in effect on my network and I barely have to deal with much more than normal Windows incompatabilities and corrupted files.

Now....this doesnt mean I like Microsoft....anyone who has discussed computers with me knows I hate the Redmond Antichrist like they deserve....but Mulder's propoganda piece is WAY overexaggerated........

also...since Macs are now based on a *nix kernel...I wouldnt mind having one....but at what cost??

no thanks...I like to be able to upgrade and repair my machines...and it is much easier to do with pc clones.

This quote is from that article by Mark Morford that was posted by Mulder.

First, I doubt the guy understands PC or Mac architecture despite the fact that he calls himself a "power user". User's don't understand computer architecture, devleopers do but I'm not going to argue the merits of one system vs. the other.

One of the main types of viruses that hit PC users are those e-mail viruses (I Love You or Anna Kournikova). All those viruses are are scripts (very simple programs) that the user gets tricked into executing (a hack called "social engineering"). I don't think it would be that hard to write a program/script for the Mac that would delete all your .jpg files or .mps files or whatever. If the person running the computer runs the program and that person has admin rights no telling what could happen. Unix machines suffer this same vulnerability. The key is that most Unix users don't run their machines with admin/root privelages.

Both systems are fine. There are Mac viruses but, for the most part, no one bothers to write Mac viruses because 1) no one knows how to code for the Mac and 2) it wouldn't be any fun.

Besides (and most importantly) you can't play Doom3 or Half Life 2 on a Mac.... ;) (at least not right away....)

That article is loaded, but tne big thing I hate about windows is its registry. Image changing your clothes but not your underwear for as long as you run your current Windows installation. That's kind of how Windows treats its registry. It forces you to reformat every couple years or so to regain that performance you started with.

    Macs are for women. ;)

no seriously, I wouldn't mind having a mac if it wasn't so damn expensive

I could get a solid PC for maybe $500-1000 while I'd have to pay about $1500-2000 for a solid mac

not worth it IMO unless your like a music making, movie producing person

I'm also a Linux user (as well as a windows user) and I'm with R2k..

    also:
don't get me started on their ridiculously priced monitors..why should I pay a premium for freakin' aluminum??

buuut..they do look nice and the OS is fluid but the prices are up the ass

Intel has pulled a complete about face in the MHZ doesn't matter wars

especially after they found that they can't ramp up Prescott to 5ghz (or even 4 ghz for that matter)

now it's all about dual cores, and multi-threaded applications vs clock speed

good thing AMD is handing Intel their ass in most benchmarks or Intel would be completely asleep

I don't like Macs and you won't see me speak highly of them often, but OSX is fundamentally more secure than XP

Unlike Windows, Mac OS X requires an administrator password to change certain configurations, run the system updater, and when installing new software. From a security perspective, this is another example of how Apple takes a proactive approach to system-level security. If a virus, remote hacker, or co-worker tries to install or reconfigure something on the system, they’re stymied without knowing the administrator’s password stored in the hardened System Keychain. (Incidentally, this password is not the same as the Unix 'root' account password of the system's FreeBSD foundation, something that further enhances security.) In some ways, this can be seen as Mac OS X protecting a careless user from themself as well as others.

nah. I saw the offer sheet in my motherboard box, but I never use a Windows version unstilt he first service pack. The main reason of going 64-bit, other than immediate results, was to "futureproof" my machine for Longhorn in the event it comes out in our lifetime.

I'll send you an e-mail with the details of my machine.

Now that's funny. Try reading a bit about unix security as compared to windows security before posting this rubbish again.
