Does anyone on our roster have that killer instinct?

When I see us hold a big lead we dont seem to have that killer instinct to want to runaway with the game.

to put a knife in their back and destroy their moral.

that would be something I feel we are really missing. We seem to relax when we have a big lead and that drives me nuts. I keep yelling at the screen run up the score, run up the score.

I might relax up 40 points with a minute left but other than that I say run up the score!
Not only does it give us confidence it increases the moral of this team and makes the other team fear us next time around.

    what do you guys think?

Sura has it, Barry has it, Wesley has it.

But the rest of the team does not have it.

But, they are still winning whilst they develop it...so, I am ok with that.

Hey, the '93-'94 Rockets championship squad didn't have much of a killer instinct either. Remember how many leads they gave up that season? Everyone knows the infamous Phoenix "Choke City" incident, but they'd been doing that all year long.

So if this Rockets team ends up emulating that one, I'm fine with that. What's more important to me is that they've been making clutch plays when they needed to. Like Yao and Sura hitting their free throws against the Fakers or T-Mac sending the game into overtime against Minnesota.

Well, we make big shots when the game is on the line, so I would call that killer instict........yeah, we cant hold big leads but every NBA team is gonna make a run sooner or later anyways.......you just have to find a way to hold on thats all

i would think the san antonio spurs think t-mac has a killer instinct. i was reading their forums and all you hear is how much they hate tmac and houston is one team they would hate to see in the playoffs

San Antonio fans worry about us? I think every team is worried about us since we are playing fantastic ball lately. (ok maybe except for Charlotte fans)

hehe I've always been curious what fans of other teams think about our team.

clutch the bear, man, cause he's a freakin bear! bear's are big a ferocious, they need to have that killer instinct otherwise they won't be able to survive!

Otherwise, Sura has it for sure, more than anyone else. McGrady has it sometimes, but can lapse into just going through the motions in the first half.

I would arguee that McGrady has it. The McGrady Mircacle may be an aberation, but look at the Minny game the other night. We brought him here to do that stuff, like hitting the shot to send it into OT. Some nights he may be off (like against LA), but he still shows up, plays D(that play against Odom for the W), and when he is on, there is NO ONE in the L who can stop him.

T-mac definately has it, he just doesn't show it as much as barry and sura. I remember one game where we were already to a comfortable lead and t-mac hit 3 3's in a row and a few jumpers lol. Then JVG took him out and rested him the rest of the game. T-mac loves to show up people, the thing is... if no one challenges him or there is nothing at stake then he'll just go through the motions. I think he realises every game from here on out are big ones now that the seeding will be close the rest of the way. T-mac has fire but only when lit by someone else.

I think TMac has shown the killer instinct at times too, this year, but because he doesn't show many outward signs of emotion, it might be easy to miss. But it takes playoff experience to show who really has it. Maybe we have a Cassell or Elie--finding out is part of the development of the team and figuring out the right building blocks.

I won't go into individual but i think this team compare to the team before the trade...has the killer instinct more than ever and the desire of wanting to win. And they hate to lose from Yao to Barry, Sura, Wesley, TMac, Howard Motombo....they wall want to win and that will drive you to be competitive in every game. Of course i can't forget JVG too...he's probably the most competitive person on the team.

Yep. TMac/Yao are not mature yet. They will be. They need a few tough losses in the 4th to teach them a lesson. JVG can do only so much. The players just say, "Yeah, sure..." they will end up trying to hold off their oppoents. We saw that in the last game.

We were up by 15pts the last game in the 4th and we let them back into the game....

You are right. We should run up the score as much as possible in the 4th...(except in the last 60 seconds...).

But think about it. Pretend you are on the team. You just got finished with three great quarters and you'll up by 20pts. It's very easy to just relax a bit....and it's very hard to listen to your coach that is saying, "Don't relax! Keep the presure on!" This will come with experience and maturity.

Sad to say....the best teacher is a hard loss. :(

We do have killer instincts on this team...Sura, Barry and Westley (like DD said).
But the real killer is: TMAC! One of the best games I ever saw was on where he and Big Dog Robinson went at it in the play-offs. TMac was on fire! He was unstoppable! And he was PISSED OFF!

If you want to see a great game...it's when TMac is MAD!
Just wait until the play-offs....if one player, just one (from the opposing team) starts to trash talk TMac...he will go off!

I'm just waiting fot this to happen like it did against the Bucks. :D

That's one of the great things about TMac. If you push him, he pushes back....by playing harder and becoming more focused. It's very hard to get in TMac's head. He doesn't get frustrated. I love those type of players.
