The Boston Celtics’ Paul Pierce and Houston Rockets’ Tracy McGrady today were named the Eastern Conference and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, January 31 through Sunday, February 6. Pierce led his team to a 3-1 week, averaging 25.0 points on .468 shooting, 5.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.5 steals. He recorded a triple-double in the 110-89 victory over the New Jersey Nets, becoming one of only three players this season to record a triple-double by the end of the third quarter. McGrady led the Rockets to a 4-0 record for the week, averaging 27.7 points on .400 shooting, 6.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.75 steals. To highlight McGrady’s week, he notched 40 points, 13 rebounds, four assists and one steal in a 119-113 overtime victory at Minnesota.
awesome! Im glad the league is recognizing our players. When Yao starts his stampede through the second half of the season I hope he gets some recognition too. J
I figured McGrady had a good shot at Player of the Week since the Rockets didn't lose last week. Plus 2 of their 4 games were on national TV which never hurts. I just never realized he shot 40% from the field during that stretch. Ouch.
wow, shooting 40% from the field... yet he puts up 27.7... but people rarely see the FG% when someone's sticking threes with people all up in his face..
It is surprising since he had two subpar games last week: against Boston and LAL. Now if Yao had been able to play 10 more min in the blowout against Philly, he might have won the player of week honor instead. Dude played great against Boston, Minny, and LA and was the difference maker in games against Celtics and LAL. Unfortunately he was not able to play a second in the 4th against Philly since JVG was obviously trying to save him some energy.
I think its his second in 3 weeks. Its nice to see him get some credit. He has been awesome since december.
I don't think that TMac deserves Player of Week this time. It seems to me that the honor should go to Sura or Yao.
One thing about T-Mac shooting 40%, since he hardly ever forces shots, you really don't notice it. It also helps that other players are making up for the percentage, specifically Yao, Barry, and Padgett.
