Ummm...no. Not really. I'm just playing out the idea. I put some additional incentives and problems later in the post, as I had the same feeling. A pick and the TE could make things more interesting though. NY could use a pick (as could we). It doesn't hurt to ask :).

NY is an interesting story. There are plenty of players that would like to be there. When they get Allen Houston to retire it won't be so bad. Every team has someone that's a bad contract, and NY has shown they can take on the $$ if they can get a player they want or a useful pick. Wally wants to go there, SAR would like to go there, etc. I'd bet Stromile Swift is a target. Wonder what Zeke will try to do? He does have some pressure to make the deal now, so he doesn't lose value in his trade chips.

This exericise (message board trade debate) is just for entertainment, guys. :). Crack a joke every now and then.

Draft picks don't add much incentive, seeing as how ours would be late to mid 1st round.

IMO, NY is going to want some type of young, proven talent in return, IF he is available, which I don't believe he is.

A mid-late 1st rounder is a crap shoot these days. I dont think NY is going to put itself in a position to lose a double double guy and possibly have nothing in talent to show for it on the court.

So if they cannot get what they really want, would they not want to do the next-best thing, if the chemistry problems really exist?

But if I understand you correctly, you are saying that IF they were willing to do the deal I posted if we threw in a 1st round pick, we should do it?

I don't think Mo Taylor is the next best thing. I would like to think he is worst case in a scenario where NY felt they had to get rid of Thomas at all costs and not being offered anything better than Mo in return.

    a) I don't think Thomas is necessarily available
    b) I don't think Mo Taylor would be the best proposal they would receive if he is available

    Of course we should.

My argument, is, would they? I feel they wouldn't even consider it based on Thomas' value as a player.

IMO, you would HAVE to give away your 1st rounder to get rid of Mo and expect, maybe, a TE and a 2nd rounder in return. Thats the best I think we could get for him based on trades I've seen the last few years.

Just look at the Glen Rice trade for comparison. We had to give up more than just him to get rid of him and got practically nothing back. And his contract was set to expire sooner than Mo's would.

Valid points, codell. Thanks for the discussion.

Do I think there is a more than 50 % chance that my idea would happen? No.

Would I like it? Yes :D.

NY has no intention nor incentive to tank this season, which is what would happen if they gave up Kurt Thomas. NY's defense starts with Kurt Thomas, he is without a doubt their best defender. Despite KT's issues with Marbury, they both benefit from the PnR they run. It is a staple of the Knick offense and without it they'd be sunk. KT and Marbury are both hot headed and say things in the heat of the moment. That tiny argument has since subsided so that is a moot argument anyway.
