In light of the Orlando Sentinel's desire to determine who got the best of who in the Francis/McGrady trade, I thought it might be a good time to ask this question (listed in multiple choice form):

The Rockets have a better _____________ than the Magic.
    1) win total
    2) win percentage
    3) conference
    4) division
    5) best player
    6) second best player
    7) clutch execution
    8) defense
    9) free agent draw
    10) future
    11) all of the above

I know this is immature, but I can't help it, Wesibrod and the Sentinel are so irritating.

Man, I've been waiting for this point all season long. I *HATE* how people against the trade would merely point to the record of Orlando when trying to "prove" that Orlando got the better end of the deal. It is just SWEET to have that over with (at least for the time being). BOOYAH.

I thinking about this just this morning when I was reading the sports page

everyone was dogging the rox early this season - I think one person on this board gave the back handed slap saying that the Rockets were basically the 03-04 Magic, but they would be "sucessful" this season becasue they would win more than 21 games

    but who's laughing NOW ?!?!?!?!

I guess this is the point where we say they have improved
    more than we have :D

Had the trade not happened. . . . i think we would still be better
    than we were last year

Comparing our record to their record isn't the way to gauge this trade simply because we finished a good 20-30 games ahead of them before the trade.

But you can't say that the Magic "improved their record more and therefore they got the better end of the deal" because they added the first pick in the draft and an all-star in Grant Hill.

The only way to judge the trade is to say:

If the Rockets' supporting cast right now had Francis, mobley and Cato instead of Yao, would it be better?

    Or

If The Magic had kept T-Mac and added Grant Hill, Dwight Howard, Hedo (or actually a big man that makes as much money b/c then they wouldn't have gotten Hedo had they already had T-Mac), etc., would they be better than they are now?

I say the Magic got a good deal for the situation they were in, and will benefit more in the short-term. But in the long-term, you don't trade quantity for quality, and therefore although the rockets probably aren't that much better than they were last year, in the long run (even by the end of this season, or next season), the Rockets will be the clear winners.

Something I've noticed around here is this sort of "yeah, the media was dogging the Rockets but now they're jumping on the bandwagon" attitude. I mean, what were they supposed to say when we were sucking? They team had problems that had to be fixed. Some of those problems were addressed and now we're doing better. To act like the media was wrong to point out that the Rockets were struggling at first is crazy.

    unfortunately, looks like they are...
    http://www.creature-corner.com/?type=news&id=346

this is like Jordon on the Wizzards
    Dream on the Raptors
    Mays stumbling in the outfield

... why can't we let our legends stay intact

I agree completely... and I'm agnostic on the entire issue. There is absolutely no validity in using this criteria to judge the trade. I'm saying that we are better than the Magic based on EVERY superficial criteria I can possibly think of. I'm Just turning the tables on Orlando because they seemed to take so much pride in declaring they somehow took Houston with the trade.

I have been posting at a Magic fan board and they dont have anything bad to say about the trade... most feel it was a great trade for both teams with only a few still bitter...

I'm glad we dont have to read anymore crap from the Orlando papers here anymore..

if they are over it - why did they spend the whole Houston game booing Tmac instead of chearing their team

their team needed the encouragement !

RR, I know you wont believe me at this point in time...but you will in the future. The Rockets, w/Francis would *never* (I repeat, never!) reach the elite status. Francis is not a complete player. TMac is.

Stuffing this team with more all-stars to make Francis better is a bad strategy for a franchise. What I mean is this...with TMac we can get away with having good role players. With FRancis we'd HAVE to get more *All-Stars* to make up for Francis's deficiencies. It's not worth it. Especially for a max contract player. Too much pampering.

So, the next 3-4 years will *not* resemble anything close to the last 3-4 years under Francis. We will actually IMPROVE each year! Imagine that!

    U maybe right
    but
    the trade was mutual benefit
    IMO
T-mac has better shooters than Francis HAS
    and
Francis has better folx surrounding him than T-mac
    had

BOTH TEAMS may have traded their main horses
but the surrondings on both sides improved
    greatly as well
