I still don't get it Grizzled.

Ever since Sistani forced an election, the outcome was predicted. No surprises (except for the volume of voters).

So again, what's the point of this thread?

If you’ve seen everything in this thread discussed elsewhere then I guess this is a repeat thread for you. I’m sorry about that, but there is new info in here for me anyway.

To be fair, I was mistaken about the National Assembly... it will apparently wield more power than I thought. According to CNN , it will function as the legislature and will elect the Presidency Council.

Sweet. The intervention, as I have contended all along, was a result of a unique confluence of variables. I was not happy to do so, but have admited the WMD rationale was obviously wrong - although he was in violation of the cease fire agreement. The AQ rationale I have from the beginning said was BS. But removing a state sponsor of terror, freeing the Iraqi people, setting the stage for the removal of sanctions, for removing our most offensive presence in SA, removing an inevitable threat of WMD all made removing Saddam worth the consequences. I hope that Bush proves the conspiracy theorists wrong. If not....if he stays even as the government demands our removal, I will admit with a heavy heart that Bush has motives I hadn't recognized.
