Yao never passes to Sura. I've heard rumors that this is because Yao is a loner, much like Kobe, and does not get along well with others, and is constantly brooding and wants the coach fired, according to sina.com. Yao very seldom seems to pass it to any other Rocket either, as his .8 assists a game shows which indicates his unhappiness with his team members. Last year he averages almost 2 more assists a game, so he's capable of doing it. Does he miss Francis and Mobley this much that he is purposely not passing? In fact, Yao is more likely to hand the ball to the opposing team, averaging almost 3 turnovers a game. Of players that average at least 31 minutes a night, Yao has the worst assist:turnover ratio in the entire league. What kind of player would rather turn the ball over than risk passing it? Yao needs to know his place on this team. He's a role player. His role is to score, rebound, and block shots. Instead I see him constantly taking stupid fouls and handing the ball to the opposing team. Someone should make it clear what his role is. Yao should worship Sura, he has brought energy and winning to an unenthusiastic Rockets team and Yao should reward Sura by giving him the ball. Instead Yao hands the ball to the opposing team forcing Sura to race downcourt to try and defend while Yao lightly jogs behind. Is turnabout fair play?
you're r****ded. Creating a thread to call out a hardworking player just because of a few nutcases on the forum. Great job
this is the stupidest way to respond to the moronic Sura bashers because it manages to annoy the regular posters also. just plain stupid
Yao's 0.8 assist per game this year is really embarrassing. passing's supposed to be one of his strengths.
Yeah it's all Yao's fault. Yao growing so tall takes away air, cloth, water, space and food from everyone on this crowded planet. Not only that, Yao takes away air, cloth, water, space, food, and !gasp! SHOTS from Bobby Sura, the hall of famer of high pain threshold. Does the tall low life of Yao deserve to live? Only under the permission of Lord Sura! Yao should be demoted to water boy for Lord Sura, passing Sura towel, Gaterade and yeah, bottles of Tylenol, such is the sweet revenge of making Lord Sura pass Yao the damn ball!
There are two parts to an assist. The pass and the made shot. Yao finds the open man quite often when he's double teamed. Wesley, Howard, and Sura never complete the second part.
how come other guys manage any assists? there is presumably a systemic reason for Yao's low number of assists, and it isnt necessarily his fault. Any opinions?
From the games I've watched, Yao's low number of assist stem from the fact that we tend to make "the extra pass" a lot more this season. He passes the ball out of the post just as often as he used to. However, the guy who receives the ball then swings the ball around to another player who takes the shot. Overall, I think the results are better. Guys are passing up good/decent shots to get better/wide-open shots from teammates, but as a result Yao's assist # goes down.
