I think we should take the emotion out of all this. Van Gundy is a good NBA coach. Can we do better? In my opinion, yes, but there are only a few coaches that would be an upgrade. So we should go for one of those coaches if he becomes available. It's not about loving/hating/liking him but not that way. It's about winning.
It's hard to hate him now. the team seems to be starting to click now and our D is great as allways. i'll take him over Rudy antday of the Week.
Yeah that's probably it and not the posting "four more years" repeatedly. Why Sura no pass Yao the ball?
who is available that has led teams to a championship? phil jackosn? that's a huge stretch? who else? i'm going to keep pressing this question to all the haters, who could we have that's better? i can't think of anyone that's obtainable, but i'm always open to hear suggestions.
Of course, you can also see it like this. People are afraid of change, so you have plenty of cowards on the "hate" side who hate him because he is a change from Rudy.
Now that is funny. Don't get irked, I have been here long enough to know that you are a true clutchfan. I was just pulling your leg with a twist. Now apologize to me PS. Sura looked for Yao in the first 3 plays of the game. In doubt? get the game tape
I have never hated JVG...he's frustrated me at various times in terms of his offensive stratagems and benching Yao for prolonged durations...but no I have never hated JVG...I dont hate anyone. There's a difference between disliking a person and hating someone. I've disliked his methods at times...but never hated the man. I don't hate Phil Jackson...but I don't care to see such an egomanicial coach become the head of the Rockets. Rocket Triangle? Bah!
I think we have to give the management a lot of credit for making moves (Wesley, Strickland) that were pretty lowly regarded on the board, but seem to be working well, especially in terms of ball movement. Lets see if all these old bodies hold up!
This thread is useless. Like my sig says... Unless you see Gundy with a beer and a smile AND a I LOVE HOUSTON I HATE NYC shirt on the sidelines, he won't be embraced. The man has done EVERYTHING people that hate him wanted. You wanted a better run offense? Done. You wanted to start winning? Done. You wanted turnovers down? Done. You wanted to trade for a big time player? Done. The man can win 20 rings, people will still hate him. Its his "NYC in his blood" that Houston fans hate. Lets face facts. Its not his coaching. Its not his personnel moves. Its him saying NYC is home and he loves it up here where you guys should come and visit. You guys can't stand them damn Yanks infiltrating your turf. To all the haters: You might hate him now. But sooner or later, you will love him. Sooner or later, you will learn to love him.
Strike one- follows Rudy T- Houston legend Strike two- Negative New Yorker- Texans hate 'em Strike three- Team struggles out of the gate- after big trade OK- now that all of us living in Texas have kicked our dogs, pickup trucks and oil wells... Let's hope we make the playoffs and do some damage. I like all our coaches when we win.
Good points but if you were asked "Is JVG was the right coach for this team," what would your answer be?
Nope, sorry. JVG may earn props. He may manage to prove he is "better than the average bear" as an NBA coach. He may even win some championships. However, I can foresee no future where I "love" the guy. Respect, certainly. That is as far as it goes.
If you have somthing educated to add to the thread than yes please post away. If not than dont! Simple as that. This goes for every thread in the BBS, IMO of course.
I never disliked JVG. I think he's a good coach. He got us to our first playoff appearance in 5 years, he helped get us T-Mac. The guy has made the playoffs every year he's coached and let us hope that streak is kept alive in Houston. I will however admit that the thought of having a 9-time world champion coach the Rockets is tempting. But let's be honest, that's basically a dream anyway. Go Rockets and go JVG!
