well Dell Harris is an assistant for Dallas ... in fact he was an assistant to Rudy on the world championship team (I believe)

...but he would not be an assistant for the Lakers or Houston since he already had a head coaching job there

I think the same rule applies to Rudy

... besides Rudy didn't play for the knicks !

It would be a bad idea...after a loss people would be calling for JVGs head...more so than usual...and would be yelling for Rudy T...it would be a bad choice.

I wouldn't mind seeing him go back to scouting for us. He always did a good job of turning up players in the wierdest places. Besides, it's a lower stress job and he could travel.

They had a clip of his news conference on Sportscenter...

He made a comment about wishing "he was back to his assistant days" where he had responsibilities, but not as much to worry about.

I hope he goes back to Houston :)

He's already obligated to teh Lakers for the next two years. Though they call it a "consultant" he will probably doing the same scouting he was doing for us for the last year.

Do you realize the extent to which that would undermine JVG's authority? If you wish to fire him, do so.

Rudy is a head coach, with over 500 career coaching victories. He ain't a freaking assistant.

he said at his press conference:

"I told Dr. Buss, that I want to be a Laker, that I still want to be here. And he offered me a job for two years."

......hmmm........doesn't sound like he is coming back. Plus, JVG and Rudy have never worked together, why would JVG ask him to sit on the bench with him or do scouting. I'm not saying `I wouldn't want Rudy to be back in Houston, but as has been mentioned, at the first sign of trouble, JVG's head would be demanded more than usual (if that's even possible).

    LOL...

    So how does that work?

So when the Rockets are on defense JVG stands up then when the Rockets have possession JVG sits down and Rudy stands up.

I think some dismiss the idea too readily. He likes coaching, specifically, and assistant is a lower-stress position. He's not the type that his ego would bother him because he's "only" an assistant. I don't know about making him some sort of offensive coordinator per se, but his experience would be valuable to a head coach. I don't think he'd be any threat to JVG's position since he's ruled out being head coach. And, he's a team player so he wouldn't be undermining the head coach's leadership. Not saying I want it to happen, but it isn't a terrible idea.

Never going to happen. If he could hack recruiting, I might see him try his hand at the college game. Otherwise, maybe he really is leaving of his own accord this time :/

I really hope Rudy can end his career as a Rockets, give him some kind of office job or something, he belongs here in Houston.
