ESPN Live Chat with Tom Lemming and Warchant.com reports that Fred Rouse has committed to FSU. The Seminoles usually can get any player they want out of Tallahassee. Looks like Texas did miss out on a great QB, WR and TE, but the class is still strong, not top ten but still decent.
Rumor has it that Mack Brown tried to get Chase Daniel to switch his committment from Missouri to Texas at the last minute. Apparently Daniel (qb from the state champs Southlake Carroll) wanted to go to UT all his life, but since Mack had Perrilloux, Daniel committed to Missouri. Daniel turned down Mack's request and signed with Missouri today. It looks like UT's only quarterback this class will be Colt McCoy, the quarterback from Jim Ned high school, which is a 2A school.
Originally posted by ROCKSS After listening to different "experts" talk about Perrilloux and is inflated ago, I think Texas should be happy he isnt coming to Austin. It seems like the kid needs a dose of reality and a big slice of good ole humble pie. We still have next year to find a good replacement QB for Vince. By the way, as a Husker fan, I was glad to see we had a very strong class this year. Me too. Nice to get some good competition in the Conference... esp now that Nebraska should realize that it did not 'perfect' football.
We needed a QB to groom this year and saying otherwise is delusional. Can Colt McCoy be the starter for at least 1 season? If no, then we blew it for the 2nd year in a row. Even if Vince comes back for a senior year, are you willing to give the reigns to a redshirt freshman (the 2006 recruit)? Edit - I guess we can find a transfer QB.
you wanted him and you wanted him bad.. sure wouldn't have heard any better off without him comments had you gotten him
Like we did with Vince? Didn't Simms start as a soph (no redshirt, so his 2nd year at UT)? Wasn't Major starting as a freshman? No bigtime QB recruit is going to come in to a situation where he believes he won't earn any playing time until his 3rd year in the program. It's just not realistic.
Vince had Mock. Simms had Major. Major was forced to start due to injuries. Who will the new recruit have as backup? McCoy?
Why not? Backup QB isn't exactly a big job, and Mock wasn't any huge prospect (and I liked Mock). Why are you always so negative about the Horns, btw? I've been meaning to ask you about this comment for awhile.
My negativity stems from programs achieving greater heights in less time and the last 5 RRS's. There are some people who blast sunshine all the time. I guess I'm the opposite. I don't like excuses. I don't respect the UT coaching staff on gameday. They proved me wrong last year and if I haven't posted it yet, yall were right. Perrilloux is not blameless here but I think not signing a QB last year (Bobby Reid) or one this year who can be the next star is a mistake. I could be wrong again.
I agree. QB is the one position that you always have to keep stocked. I remember last year Mack saying that ideally he'd sign a QB every year, so you always have at least one guy who's ready to play.
That's the irony of these silly star rankings, if I'm not mistaken, Mock was a 5 star prospect, one of the top QB's in he country (see the write up below), and had all the assorted meaningless accolades that recruiting gurus like to confer - but he did a lot less than a lot of his 3-star supposedly inferior brethren. At quarterback, it's really a crapshoot as far as "star ratings" goes. Next Tee Martin or Donavan McNabb? He looked pretty f'ng slow whenver I watched him play.
Smokey, after my efforts finding that quote, I was hoping for a better demonstration of crow eating. So you don't trust Mack for his on the field performance, despite making and winning a BCS game, which you said they wouldn't do. And now you think he's a poor recruiter too, even though over the years the one thing he's consistantly done is bring in top recruiting classes? Sheesh.
How much of that was Mike Haywood, though? He is reputed as a fantastic recruiter, and he's not working for the Longhorns any longer.
We certainly got our ass kicked; it's been a steady decline since 02. 07 could be a rough year w/o Vince.
Personally, I think Haywood mailed it in when ND came calling. He probably also regretted his move to UT when LSU won the MNC. I'll take Rucker.
What did he do? He said Texas was his best visit, but FSU was his dream school. No harm no foul. Also, RP is kinda pudgy for a 17 year old. I hope he gains alot of weight and I hope Russell keeps his butt on the bench.
I heard the exact same thing through a friend today. Daniel was apparently pretty upset about not really being seriously looked at, and now thinks he gets "the last laugh". It just doesn't make sense; we finally get the BCS bid and the win, and end up losing out on the top prospects.
I hope they eventually have to pry his morbidly obese body off the couch using a broom handle and I hope he has like grilled cheese sandwiches tucked in the rolls of his fat and they have to extract him from his dorm room using a crane and also, he falls down the stairs.
