Kerry took a lot of hell for that comment. One of the reasons why Kerry did vote one version of the bill to fund the 87 billion dollars to Iraq that lost was because it had accountability.

That bill lost and Kerry voted against the subsequent bill that didn't include accountability. Had the bill Kerry voted for passed, and the other bill failed, then maybe there wouldn't be nearly 9 billion dollars missing now. The reconstruction effort would still have gotten it's 87 billion dollars, and it wouldn't have added to the national debt.

Instead we have this. And the move which actually prevented govt. waste was used against Kerry, by the Bush campaign.

    FB,

You can look at who was in the 'right' and then who was more politically adroit. Both sides would argue the first point, but I imagine many Kerry supporters would concede the 2nd to Bush and his team. I do.

I agree that the Bush side was far more politically adroit, and it worked.

To me that is more profound than the fact that the bill that past allowed this kind of waste to happen, while there was a bill out there that prevented it, and didn't add to the deficit.

I agree 100% that they used this as a political attack on Kerry. It just shows that smart votes, and bills can be twisted to be effectively used against a person in today's political climate. That is a sad thing. If I bought into that line of bull from Rove & Company I would probably feel duped after realizing that I held Kerry in a negatvie light for something that turns out he was correct about.

As for arguing which side was right, I don't think there is any question that a bill which makes puts accountability with that kind of money as a priority is better than a bill which doesn't. This is only proof of that.
