I can't stand Phil Jackson, I would have to start a Fire Phil Jackson thread immediately if he came here.

First of all. Be happy you see plays being run out there. Thank the gods for that. JVG is solely responsible for organizing the offense.

Although Phil Jackson is a perfect fit, The Rockets, as they stand, can win a title with JVG's offense and defense. We are getting wide open looks every night. And when we don't, we have two players who can get a wide open look on every shot. There's nothing wrong with what we running right now. The guys just need to hit the shots. The offense is rolling in my opinion depsite the lack of output on some nights.

Jackson also wants to be a coach AND GM. That's what will keep him from going to the Knicks because Thomas doesn't want to give up control. Les would have to get rid of CD as well.

Uh, unfortunately, we do not have that consistant rebounder that PJ always has. I can't see him coming her and making a huge difference with that.

Now, if we had a "rodman" type player, then he woudl be here in a second. But if we already had that type of player, then our record would be better and we would not be looking for a coach!!!!

The problem is that you cannot rely on role players hitting open shots to win the title. I would rather have PJ design some offense to maximize the potential of the Yao & TMac combo. TO make it clear, I would rather put the ball in the hands of Yao & TMac in the clutch than replying on someone else hitting some magic shots.

Steve Kerr and Robert Horry are role players who come to mind who hit big shots on Jackson teams.

Not to derail this from basketball (if it was ever there), but - no, "we" don't "luv" JVG.

Lets not forget that to bring in Phil Jackson, Les will have to pay him a huge contract, and he would have to pay JVG for the rest of his contract. It's not going to happen.

I'm ok with Van Gundy. If we were to replace him, it would have to be with a guy like Jackson or Brown (although I'm tired of reading about Brown's wanderlust). I'd happily dump CD and give Jackson the GM title too.

I dont see Les paying off JVG for the reaminder of his contract unless the Rox just tank the rest of the season and miss the playoffs which isnt likley to happien...

PJ would make this team perform at a much higher level, he understands that different players have different buttons and he is a master at pushing the right ones.

JVG is all negative reinforcement....Yao in particular does not respond well to that.

Even if you get rid of Van Gundy's so called "negative reinforcement", what are you going to do about all the negative press Yao has received from the media?

Watch an NBA show or read a newspaper. Everybody is down on Yao. If he can't handle criticism, he shouldn't be in the NBA.

Press by nature is full of followers, as soon as Yao responds more favorably to PJ's technique you would hear and read tons of people standing up and saying " Finally Yao is reaching his potential"

Here is another New York Times quote off of SI.com:

The Knicks need a new head coach. Jackson is easily the best coach available, and Thomas has made clear that he intends to pursue him after the season. The two have made their mutual interest known through intermediaries. No other team holds the sentimental intrigue of returning to New York, but several could entice Jackson with better players and the promise of instant gratification in the playoffs. There could be vacancies in Sacramento, Portland and Seattle, whose coaches are in the final years of their contracts. He could also be drawn to teams like Golden State, Miami and Houston, friends said. None of those teams are expected to have an opening, but situations change quickly in the NBA.

The real question is, 'How long will an owner hold on to a coach that is increasingly unpopular with the fans'.

Attendance is falling and if this board is indicative then we just don't like JVG, and blame him and his system for much of the Rox woes, not to mention Yao not living up to his potential. Could PJ change this, maybe; but, there are a number of good NBA coaches that would like to coach TMac and Yao.

JVG didn't really select TMac and Yao; but, he did select most of the role players. So, in some respects, this is his team. Is it working?
