Sorry but you have to have a keen basketball mind to understand it. If it beats your understand then that is not my fault. You are looking at things shallowly and quite naively. I am very excited about Stricks addition (now rather than earlier based on what I have seen) and I believe with time it is only going to get better - he is a great stop-gap pickup imho. There is so much that goes into an average basketball game than just making jump shots and the ficklesness of fan bases. I listed at list two great things he is doing but you missed it. It will serve you well to start looking beyond the superficial and start focussing on the bigger picture (a bigger prism per se) like for example giving Sura key "extended" rest, economy of dribbles and assist simplicity (setting up others). Now if you cannot see these "great" things all things put into proper perspective then I am sorry for you - I cannot help you further. Strick, once again, is doing a great job. :Shaking head: - if only people understood basketball more beyond mere face value.
You cannot be serious ....are you? Padget is a great role player and anyone like me who is a lifelong Kentucky Wild Card will be able to tell you that Padgy is a clutch shooter and full of innumerable intangibles. But that said, He is still at best a #3 power forward on an average NBA playoff team and on our team he should be behind Motay and Juwan on the depth chart. He does somethings well and it is in his best interest and our team's to continue as a "role" player, matchup guy and long range shot specialist.
Now thats calling me out, dude he is 38 years old, been with 5 teams in the last 3 years. Nobody, even the expansion Charlotte Bobcats picked him up to play this year, meaning that every team in the league didn't think he could help them and you think you have a "keener" basketball mind than the innumerable scouts, coaches and teams that judged him to be not NBA worthy. As for your give Strickland time, he's 38; I bet he only plays for the Rox until May. Using words like wonderful, excited for a stopgap measure like Strickland that has only played 4 games; that can spell Sura; that can dribble; that can pass is a little much. What about scoring, speed, defense, your keen mind says the former skills without the latter = wonderful. Fegwu, you neither understand basketball, nor are you humble.
Padgett/Deke - hmmm, what's the common demoninator? Perhaps the fact that they are not under contract for next year? Imagine how strong the league would be if there were no guaranteed contracts, like football. Maybe NBA players would play as hard, as say, NFL players?
I agree with you Fegwu, I sincerely think Strickland addition is great to this team.. only time will tell...
Been saying it for a while, like some others, that Padge deserved more time in a backup role, and I just couldn't understand him sitting on the bench esp when MoTay was stinking up the joint. Turned out Mo's disagreement with JVG, errrr I mean his flu came along at the right time. Heard on 610 a short discussion about Spoon and JVG. Commentators pointed out Spoon was our best rebounding PF, JVG loves him, and wasn't upset with him about anything, but just was not playing him at all. Must be that part of Van Gundy that just likes consistency, even when it is crappy inconsistency.
Dikembe is one of my favorite Rockets of all time. You cant help but laugh at him when ever a foul is called, he immediately goes into lawyer mode to explain his innocence. Just check him out on the bench, when there is a no call or a bad call one one of his teammates, he's all out on the court yelling at the refs. The guy is truly entertaining, and for this Dikembe, I salute you.
As for Padgett he played a huge role in the "Miracle on the Hardwood" against the Spurs as well 1)Creates a steal and dunks in the ball to cut the lead to 6. HUGE there is no way we could have pulled that game off without this steal, if you are going to outscore a team in the final minute you need some quick points without the other team scoring. 2)Sets a nasty screen on Bowen to free up T-Mac for the first of his 3s. Even though Rose switched pretty well there was plenty of space for Mcgrady to pull up. 3) Rushes nearly cross court to foul Duncan with 16 secs left. Yeah TD made both free throws but you have to play the percentages when it comes to FTs and you rather have TD at the line than Manu,Brent or Brown. A smart play that didnt work out in the favor of the rockets but smart nonetheless to rush over and foul TD. 4)Plays good D on the inbounds pass after Tracy hits his 3rd three, the result is the Spurs are forced to take a timeout. (Yes all the rockets played great defense on this sequence but many times the person taken the ball out is the one you must defend really well to block his line of vision and especially since you are blind to the player movement behind you) 5)On the switch at the end there he plays heads up defense by not fouling Brown right away and forces him baseline where the help is coming. It was fate that caused Brown to slip but Padgett played solid defense and moved his feet well. Way to go Scott! btw I can never get enough of the look of Devin Brown at the end of that video. Its sheer dumbfoundedness.
Padgett came through again for us, but we fell a little short. I really like the way Padgett is playing for us though.
They have both done a fine job for us. They are our best role players off the bench because they play smart and work hard.
I tell ya. Padgett is playing with a lot of confidence right now. The shot is flowing with him. And Padgett's play is really going to cement Taylor on the bench. Howard and Padgett at the 4 spot. That's working well for us right now. What does Taylor bring to the table that Padgett/Howard dont? Enjoy the bench Taylor!
Milk Scott Padgett until the well runs dry. Padgett is on fire, some guys blossom late, maybe Padgett has found game. Anyway if he shows up half as big as he did last night, then I think JVG should think about starting him or giving the guy 25 minutes a game.
I have been campaigning to play Padgett more since we first traded for him. It's only now that it's beginning to happen. The team should be greater than the sum of its parts. I believe adding Padgett to 4 other players creates more synergy than plugging anybody else. This is because he's smart...he hustles...he can shoot. And his rebounding isn't as bad as people say it is.
why I appreciate these 2..... Scott Padgett- he can hit an open J. Some teams don't have anyone who can do that (see Knicks/Cavs game before Rox/Sacto). Good spark for the team. A real hustlet. And oh yeah, our most clutch player..........yeah, you heard me. Deke- I just love Deke because if you screw with us, your getting and elbow to the face, so don't screw with us.
