It's a toss up between two: Guns N Roses, Metallica, and Faith No More at the Astrodome, 1991 or 1992 I think. And Iron Maiden at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC early last year. I have never seen a band as good live as Iron Maiden. They are simply the best. Seeing "Pashchendale" performed live sent shivers down my spine.
Surfguy, that Rush 30th anniversary tour surprised the crap outta me. I was so into it I peed in my empty beer cup because I didnt want to miss anything.
-pink floyd , rice stadium, april 1994, it rained like the dickens and they just kept playing Money -radiohead-Madison Square Garden, august 2001 Radiohead-Liberty State Park- a week later -Beastie Boys, Madison Square Garden-October 2004. I was part of a promotion where 50 fans were given cameras and some of our footage is going into a live DVD for the homecoming concert...
Waaay too many to recall here. Most of my hard core concert viewing happened durin the early to mid eighties, and my memory of that time is quite fuzzy due to chemical indulgence , so excuse me if I get the dates wrong. I attended many of the aforementioned concerts, like The Police in 83, Rush on three separate occasions, the Who about 5 years ago among others. My favorites include: Texxas Jam, 1984 - Ozzy, .38 Special, and Rush as the headliner. Some other big name was there, but memory fails me now. EDIT: Bryan Adams was there too. Pink Floyd, Astrodome, 1984 - Awesome show. No one has ever made the Astrodome sound system work as well before or since. Billy Squire in 84 or 85. Saw it from the 4th row. He was so intense...it was awesome Honorable mention: Tony Carey, at Cardi's in 1984, for reasons I'd rather not mention here It was the best night at a concert I've ever had!
damn, cant believe i left off Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson at Yale Field.... also Page Plant- once in 95 at the summit, once in 98 at the alamodome and a few more-beasties at alamodome in 98 Rage against the machine in MTV studios... voodoo fest back in october was pretty swet... De La Soul, Cypress Hill, Beastie Boys, pixies, and tribe Called quest were all there
Bruce at Giants Stadium...lat yr or the yr before...just amazing. Jackons victory tour in late 80's (i think) at giants stadium
Exactly. People who bash him just hear crap like Your Body is a Wonderland when the rest of his albums are pretty damn good. He seems to be widely respected among artists too. Best concert for me? Probably night two this year of DMB's stay at the Pavilion.
Suprisingly for me two my favorite concerts were with really OLD bands. Both times I figured they would suck but thier histories justified going to see them: The Stones at the Dome in '89 and The Who at MSG in '98 (I think). Both kicked ass. Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Jerry Jeff Walker at Tramps in NYC. Lyle Lovett in Central Park. The Grateful Dead at Deer Creek (oh no wait, I gave my wife that ticket ).
Damn, I forgot all about this one. I was there, and had GREAT time! One of the best party concerts I've ever been at.
awsome, I only got to see them once, in Albuquerque (2001). It is easily the best concert I've ever been too.
I saw both of those shows! I could barely see Rush as I was in nosebleed in the Astrodome. I believe that was Rush's "Grace under Pressure" tour. The Pink Floyd show I believe was the "Momentary Lapse of Reason" tour and I was again in nosebleed. That was a very memorable show as the car I was in ended up picking up a couple of total losers(uh...I think they were homeless) on the way to the show. Our driver, who owned the car, was an idiot as there was no room for them so two of them got in the trunk. We had to short out the cab light to turn it off because the trunk wouldn't close. That was so stupid. We got caught in a huge traffic jam and had to listen to these losers. Suffice to say we didn't give them a ride home afterwards. I was only 14 at the time. Ah...the memories.
Gotta go with Pink Floyd. Saw them in 87 (Astrodome) and 94 (Rice Stadium). I was stoned and it was awesome. The only band that sounded good in the Dome. In 94 it was cold and rained like a virtual hurricane. They kept playing. At one time the lady vocalists were doused with what looked like hundreds of gallons of water from a collapsed curtain over the stage. I don't smoke pot anymore, but sometimes I feel like I am when listening to Pink Floyd. My old man saw the Animals tour in 77 when we lived up north and we went together in 87. Good times
Use your Illusion tour. That was a good show. During Metallica, could anyone guess how many times Hetfield said the F word?
Roger Waters in 2000 Radiohead in 2001 and 2003 Weezer in 2002 Deftones, every concert they have played in Houston Cake, a few weeks ago Prince, at Toyota Center list goes on....
Gotta post multiples....I can't pick just one..... --Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band at the Summit, December 1978. "Darkness on the Edge of Town" tour. Started at 8:30PM. Played until 10PM. Took a half hour break. Played from 10:30PM until two o'clock in the morning. At 1:00AM, they turned the house lights on at the Summit to try to get him offstage, and he still played for another hour. Amazing show. --Little Feat, Sam Houston Coliseum, New Years Eve 1978-79 Lowell George's last show in Texas before he died 5 months later. Me and my brother sat 1st row center on the floor. Crash and the KLOL crew were sitting right behind us. Lowell George was loaded and overweight. When the line "throw me a dime, throw me a line" from the song "Fat Man in the Bathtub" came along, I pelted George with about a dozen dimes. I don't think he felt a thing. --Rolling Stones, ZZ Top & the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Astrodome, October 1981 Drove in from Austin with a friend. Great show. The Stones were in rude, fun form, and they were very tight. Best sound I ever heard in the Dome. --Pete Townshend, Wiltern Theatre, Los Angeles, May 1993 Pete Townshend solo with a sh*t-hot 15 piece band (including horn section) at a 900 seat theatre. Unfreakingbelievable show. Lots of Who songs and songs off the "Rough Mix" album he did with Ronnie Lane in the mid-70s.
Forgot my favorite club show....Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble at the Rome Inn, 29th Street, Austin....September 1979. $2 cover, 75 cents per Longneck, they played all night, and there weren't more than 15 people at any given time in the club the whole time. Priceless.
