Just wondering. The team is a old team, and not really developing any young talent outside of Barrett, whose at best a reserve. So this team has been built for the here and now. So can we win it all? Can we beat the Spurs or Mavs or anyone else and win the title? If not...are we building for the future? Most of the players are on the wrong side of thier careers. I don't think we are contenders and I don't see how we are building for the future. So what are we and where are we going?

Our best two players are young.

No we won't win it all anytime soon.

We are first round fodder at this time.

    Our scouting team sucks IMHO.

We have players that have contracts no team wants a part of.

Watching Yao Ming play is frustrating at times.

that pretty much sums it up

Shaq and Kobe are good examples of what the Rockets could be. Yes, we have been told numerous times that Yao isnt shaq, but even being half as good as Shaq is being dominate in the west.

All they need is role players that know their role and are good at it. Barry and Wesley are prime examples of them.

Look at what Shaq/Kobe's supporting cast throughout the years:

2000: Rice, Knight, AC Green, Fox, Horry, Harper
2001: Fox, Horry, Fisher, Grant, Harper
2002: Richmond, Samaki Walker, Hunter, Fox, Horry

As you can see most of them didnt last for more than year other than Horry, Fox, Harper, and Fisher

All we need is some role players that know what they are here to do. We don't need subpar allstars to win championships, but nice, cheap role players in which is doable. They dont have to be young, just play the way the team wants them to.

I think things can turn around quickly. The Heat were the worst team in the league then drafted Butler and signed Odom...and they were one of the best teams. Granted they broke that group up. But it just shows what COULD happen. Draft a fine young player and sign a good player, (not another Mo Taylor) and add them to our 2 young guys and we might have something. But right now - today, we just don't have it. I just wonder why build a team with all veterans that basically has no shot at the title?

Depends on the match-up. If the Rockets can get the number 6 seed and Seattle stays at number 3, I would be willing to say the Rockets would be even money.

Any of the other top teams I wouldn't give the Rockets much of a chance against in a seven game series.

Yeah if we can get the Sonics in the first round I really like our chances. Who knows maybe an injury occurs to the Rockets opponent in the second round and they make it all the way to the conference finals (hey i can dream cant I).

I actually think they matchup well with the Spurs, doesn't make sense since power forward is our weak link. Maybe I'm reading into too much of our wins over them this season. Thinking about it some more, we probably won't win a series against them.

Against the Suns, forget it. The Kings, not a good feeling. All 3 of those teams have that PG/PF combo that seems to be our achilles. The Sonics have Rashard but I don't know too much about Luke Ridnour....Ray Allen should be neutralized by TMac...then again TMac is playing small forward these days.

Our role players right now ...other then the fact they are old and will be nearing retirement when Yao and TMac hit their prime, I like the nucleus right now (except for salary cap eating-flu ridden type of players that JVG finds no use for so they stay on IR even though they were eligible to get off it). They battle in every game.

The Rockets this year has done better against top competition than previous years. So I feel we certainly do have a shot at making an improbable run. But we're not contenders by a long shot.

Unless Yao plays like a man, this team is only a poor man's 2000 Pacers.

I like our chances against the Sonics... (contingent on how we do against them in the Reg Season)..

I see the match-ups like this:

    T-Mac / Rashard

    Ray Allen / Wesley

    Sura / Ridenour

Hopefully our 4's can be a wash agains their 4s' and Yao comes up big when it really counts...

    What'ya think??

i think ray allen will have a feild day, but so should yao. JVG is a great playoff coach and we are a more experianced team. i think if we play the sonics in a 7 game series we will win in 6 or 7.

A month ago I would have said no way. I still say no but the gap is closing. I got to give CD and JVG credit the team full of VETS are starting to gel really well together. THis is the best I think the ROckets have been on offense in a really long time.

Plus Yao is starting to play better. I've noticed hes going back to the way he played his rookie year. Earlier in the year Yao would pass on an open outside jumpshot now hes taking it and making it on a consistent basis. I hope this sign that JVG has given up on making Yao into the next Shaq and now letting the man just play his game. If thats the case watch out for Yao he's gonna be putting up some real nice numbers real soon.

Its all on Yao's shoulders if he keeps this up and just gets more shots than ya I think the Rockets will be contenders come Apirl.
