Just thought I'd start a thread to see the consensus on how the game will swing tomorrow. Reply with any thoughts/ predictions.

I personally am and always will be a UT fan, and part of the territory that comes with that is the typical "OU sucks" phrase before every big game. I've heard it all today, especially from Texas fans like myself. OU hasn't played a team as physical as Nebraska. They haven't played a team that can run it down their throat, and will wear you down with a strong offensive line. However, whenever Nebraska has been challenged by a half decent team, they have had their troubles, as evidenced by Notre Dame, Iowa St., etc. They haven't seen anything like OU yet. OU's defense, while not talked about, is very underrated and strong from when I've seen them. However, as all of you know, it's their offense that makes them go. I honestly believe right now Josh Heupel will win the Heisman trophy. But more than him, I just don't know if anyone in the country knows how to counter the offensive system the Sooners throw at you. They have so much speed with the backs and receivers, and the way they throw 5 quick receivers on the field almost makes them look like college football's version of the Rams. (with a better defense, yes) And Nebraska's defense, especially their secondary, has been very shaky this season, even against the likes of Missouri, who actually outgained them in total yards in Lincoln. Granted, Nebraska is favored. The experts give them the edge with their experience, physicality, and other things. But with the system the Sooners have, the quarterback they have running it, the inspired defense, and the home crowd on their side, I think they'll win this game.

    OU 45
    Nebraska 34

(Despite this paragraph which supports OU- I actually would prefer them to lose, because if they lose twice Texas will be in the Big 12 championship... however, I'm trying to be realistic here, and I really like what I've seen of OU this year... They are tough to beat.)

I had nothing against the Sooners until this year. I am not upset at the score or that OU's RB scored 6 TD's against UT. In fact, Heupel is a true Heisman contender. Bob Stoops has done a wonderful job at OU in just two seasons.

The thing that I resent about Sooners is how cocky they have become after their win over UT. OU students got the Monday off after the win (their low class President declared it from the booth..how cool!) and their Student Government passed legislation declaring that "tu sucks" and sent it to all the presidential candidates. Pretty low. If that wasn't enough some OU punks trashed the office and car of one of their professors. They scratched the score of them game into his car just because he is a Texas Ex.

On Saturday, NU will show OU that they are pretenders just like UT was last year. OU will play in the Cotton Bowl, but the Horns will play in KC.

    Nebraska 41
    OU 20

I thought it was funny that Dale Hansen (from Channel 8 in Dallas) was doing a poll on his radio show. The question was: "Should Channel 8 stay with the OU-Nebraska game once the Cornhuskers are up by 30 points or so, or should they switch to another game?"

Doesn't look like Nebraska is going to get up by 30 (or by any amount), though, so I guess Channel 8 will stay with the game. [IMG]

I am eating my words right now. Un****ingbelievable! OU is for real this season. Can they win two in a row vs. Nebraska or Kansas State? They will have to do just that if they want to play in the Orange Bowl for the National Championship.

I'm impressed. Now, unless Tech and A&M could somehow upset them, I wouldn't mind if they went to the national championship game. It would put some pressure on Mack Brown if it only took Stoopes two years.

    Mack Brown or Bob Stoops?

Bob Stoops has shown that he is a big time coach with less talent and less time than Mack Brown.

OU is a young team. UT is a young team.

Stoops will win a conference title and national title before Brown ever does. Gary Barnett is sure looking good to me. CU is awful, but just imagine what Barnett can do with our talent. Look at what he did at Northwestern.

Barnett is worse than Brown. Stoops is looking good to me right now. He was my choice back in '97.

You wanted Stoops in 1997? You didn't even want Mackovic fired! What made you think someone who had never been a head coach would be a better choice than someone who took a 1-10 non-football school and turned it into a yearly top-5 team in about 5 years?

Of course I didn't want Mackovic fired, but my choice as a replacement was Stoopes. I sure as hell didn't want Barnett (bang up job at CU so far) or Brown. I still don't want Brown.

what made you want stoops, given that he'd never been a head coach before? and what didn't you like about brown, given that he had just turned a horrible program into a top 5 team with the top defense in the country?

what did you think of mack brown after his first year, when he took a 4-7, no-defense-playing team and turned it into a 9-3 team with a quality defense?

what did you think of bob stoops after last year, when OU went from a 4-7 (?) crap team to a 6-5 (?) crap team? (these numbers are purely estimates)

even early this season you thought OU would suck... if you liked stoops so much, why would you expect them to suck so bad?

i have found my first bandwagon fan of coaches ... [IMG]

I've never liked Mack Brown at any time. I've made no bones about it. He's a great recruiter and politician, but he's not that great a head coach. At UNC, he played in a weak ACC conference winning games like 6-0, 13-0, and could never beat Florida State.

I will admit my wanting Stoops-the defensive coordinator at one of the best programs, one with the one of the best defenses in the country-was influenced by other factors (i.e. girlfriend's parents going on and on about him).

    Disappointments 2000

    1) No Championship of any kind - Texas took a big step backwards this year. Texas is young, but so is OU and they are contending for a national championship with less talent. Not only will we not win a national championship, we are not close to even winning the Big XII or repeating as South Division Champions.

    2) Mack Brown - his lack of motivation and prepping showed against OU. Once again the Horns fell behind this time never to catch of up. He is just not a big game coach. He never was at UNC and never will be at Texas. So what if he turned around UNC? Did he win anything at UNC? Nope. Who cares about a recruiting championship? Mack Brown can win 10 games a year and have a team ranked in the top 5, but when it counts he doesn't show up. He can talk all he wants, but he can't walk.

    3) Talent - this goes back to MB. He has the pieces but he can't put the puzzle together -MB can't coach. I am being too harsh on MB but in his 10 plus years coaching he hasn't done anything. What a waste of talent.

    4) Offense - you know what I mean.

No Smokey, I know for a fact that shanna loves it when we run 5'7'' Mitchell up the middle every damn play!

Hmmm.. taking a team from 1-10 to 10-1 in 5 years is nothing? Having Top 5 teams in the nation is doing nothing? Wow, if national championships in the first 3 or 4 years at a school is the only acceptable goal, I guess every coach in the nation sucks. Did DK Royal, Joe Paterno, Bobby Bowden, Lloyd Carr, Barnett, Osborne, Butch Davis or any other "good" coach win a title in his first 3 years? Yet, Mack Brown sucks because he can't do what NO ONE HAS EVER DONE BEFORE? Good expections y'all have... [IMG]

RM95 -- I do have problems with our playcalling. However, I can't argue with the fact that we've had our highest scoring & highest yardage teams ever under Mack Brown, against more difficult schedules than offensive mastermind John Mackovic.

I've made no bones about it. He's a great recruiter and politician, but he's not that
    great a head coach.

Hmmm... If this is true, how did he take Mackovic's players and take them from a 4-7 team into a 9-3 team? Why did UNC's 10-1 team absolutely and completely collapse the year after he left? These are head coaching results -- they have nothing to do with recruiting or politics. Mack Brown got more out of the same basic talent than his successors and predecessors.

If this is true, they need to bring Mackovic back to run the offense.

Mack Brown is good for Texas football, but so was Mackovic.

I still have a hard time believing they fired Mackovic so quickly after the inaugaural Big XII conference title.
