My senior year in High School Madden02 took over my life. One week me and 2 other buddies missed 4 days in one week dedicated to our franchises. We literally played around 15 hours a day. I think we got to year 18 or so. I remember almost breaking down into tears after I lost Daunte and Edge to career enders in the same season. But I got back eventually. Those were good times. First time I skipped school was 7th grade to go to an astros playoff game. Who can fault that? In college I rarely go to class. But I dont consider that skipping considering mostly everybody does it. Besides I'm a RHIM major and thats about as easy as you can get.
DD, where do you buy coin-ops? I am closing on my first home (at 36, geez) in March and the first thing I want is to put a couple of coin-ops in the garage. The old stuff of course....damn the kids these puppies are for me!
During my senior year (1979 ) at Bellaire, I cut class one Spring morning, about 2 months before graduation, to get Supertramp concert tickets. I got the tickets just after they went onsale at 10AM. Couldn't go back to school of course, so I started bumming around for the day. Got home at 1PM, house was empty. Went into my room, cranked up the tunes, fired up the bong, and started reading the newspaper. My Dad, who got home everynight at 5:30 PM on the nose, apparently had a meeting that day and came home at 2PM. He walked into my room. I had just fired up and was reading the sports page. I suddenly felt the newspaper being peeled down from the top, and there was my Dad looking down at me. "You havin' fun, boy? Ain't you supposed to be in school right now"? I very nearly peed my pants.
There are actually quite a few places you can get them. I've been looking at getting a Galaga for a couple years. http://www.vidpin.com/ http://www.arcadegamesofhouston.com/
I never skipped school in high school. But one time I did leave campus to go get some food at Sonic, which was illegal. The rent a cop stopped me on my way back to the parking lot and called the prinicipal on me. Knowing I was an honor roll student who had never been in trouble before he let me go after "stern talkin to" in front of the rent a cop to save face. In college, however, there have been about 3 or 4 classes that I have skipped 75% of the time. Wish I hadn't done that.
I used to love heading out to the arcade after school. Gauntlet, Street Fighter II (Chun Li was my best char), etc. The most fun back in the day was the original NBA Jam - I was always Hakeem and I'm pretty sure Max was the only teammate choice at the time.
I skipped class one time my junior year. It was the Friday before spring break and our basketball coaches were in Austin for the state championships. Since I was going skiing that week and needed to buy some clothes for the trip, we decided to head over to West Oaks Mall during our extended basketball period which lasted around 90 minutes. When we got back, all the players were playing cards in the locker room, so we came in bragging about where we had been. That's when a football coach turned his paper down, looked at us and said, "come with me". We were mortified. He took us into the basketball coach's office, looked at us sternly and quietly said, "did you have fun?". "Uh, yessir", we replied. "Well, that's all that matters. Have a good spring break!" It was about the only time a non-football playing athlete at Katy got a break on anything.
I breezed through HS rather easily, so my mom didn't mind me taking a day off every now and then. I simply told her I didn't want to go to school that day, and she'd usually let it slide as long as I didn't abuse her leniency. To this day I don't understand why she did it, because she was a pretty strict parent overall.
i too used to write and sign my friend's "sick notices." i only skipped once and i think it was junior yr when Clear Lake HS went to state or something like that. we didn't care for it all but since "most" of the students were going to Austin to watch the game, we decided to skip as well. it was great!! did a whole lot of nothing.
Got stoned and surfed instead of going to class for pretty much the entirety of a semester my senior year in high school. Ah...good times.
I remember Stephen F Austin used to have an atomated phone call to your house saying one of the kids in the house hold missed one ore more classes today. Hated sitting by the phone waiting for the call.
I worked on the school newspaper, Mayde Creek class of 98, we'd just pick up and leave whenever we felt like it take long lunches or just go somewhere and chill, etc. If anyone asked why we were coming back so late or where we were we'd just say we were out selling ads, or getting interviews for stories.
Haha, whatever happened to Northoaks? Didn't they shut it down? or they took the mall out of it right?
I never skipped school, but when I live with my mom I would always make sure I got the maximum amount of allowed abscences each 6 weeks. Thanks to her "habits" she'd stay up all night and sleep all day. I usually got home about 3pm and she'd still be asleep! So there were days when I simply didn't feel like going, so I didn't. The best thing was she never knew except the 2 or 3 times she woke up early, around 2pm, and found me in my room. College is a different story. Skipping was the worst thing I could have done. It turns out I wasn't as smart as I though. I made it through the rest of my school days without studying and doing much extra work so I figured it wouldn't be much different in college. Well I only went to class on the first 2-3 days of the sememster and on test days. Well it lasted 3 years, but I can't say I left with anything except a lot of bills and few credits to my name (I think about 65 hours). Pugs
