We should trade the soft Yao to Magic for the tough Cato. Cato is a better fit for Rocket since we already have a super back court combo Sura (hard nose, played close to an entry level all star) + TMAC (one of the all star leaders). Yao get 12 shots per night, if we give these shots to Cato, he can scores same points, but Cato is a much better rebounder and he is much stronger so won't lost position under the basket. After the trade, I would say Rockt might be slight better but definetly won't be much worse.
Preciate it man. The point of this thread wasn't to bash Sura at all. People are taking it the wrong way. Sura has done a GREAT job!!! I just feel at time he and the other guards blantantly don't give him the ball b/c they lack confidence in him. No one put a gun to your head to read this or any other thread.
If that is what is holding Yao back, how truly great is he? Truly great players transcend the game. This is Yao's 2nd coach, 3rd point guard, and 3rd power forward. You can say what you want about the guys, but there's enough variety in them. Yao's shown flashes of being truly great with his current coach, point guard, and power forward. The fact is, we've handed the Spurs 20% of their losses this season, and are 3-1 against the 1/2 seeds of the East and West. This cast of characters is hardly insufficient.
I'm not saying Yao is great yet, but I can't agree with you on some of your points. Yao has never played with a decent trud point guard and decent true power forwad in NBA. That's just a fact. Look what Steve Nash does to Amare. We are also the only team in NBA lost to Bobcats twice. Rockets supporting cast is not consistent, that's alsot a fact. Again, I'm not saying Yao has nothing to blame for. But look at the big picture, develop Yao might be more important to the Franchise, Campionship wise or marketing wise, than getting a few more wins in a short period. Of course, the best thing is win game and develop Yao at the same time. For example, give Yao the ball more when he is hot or Rockets is winning big instead go away from him in those situations.
