Did anyone catch CD's interview on SportsRadio 610 this morning? I only caught the tail end of it. The part I heard he talked about the team's significant improvement from earlier in the season. He said turnovers are down, rebounding is up, and the team has more confidence so they can pull out wins in tough games like last night against New Orleans when the team shot so poorly. John asked him if the trades were meant as a statement about the players we traded away and CD said absolutely not. He said we simply had too many 3s and 4s and not enough at the 2, and that since the trades you could see a difference in the perimeter shooting and perimeter defense. He specifically complimented Jim Jackson. John asked if we would make any more trades. CD said he's on the phone every day. It sounds entirely possible that there will be another trade, but, on the other hand, CD talked a lot about the team gelling together and the tough schedule to come in March, so maybe they won't toy with the chemistry any more. Would love more info if anyone caught the early part of the interview.
Add howard to that list also! damn, i wish we had traded MoT for PJ Brown we had the chance. PJ was a monster last nigh. imagine a defensive workhorse like him next to Yao?
I agree. Giving NO our first round pick + Mo for PJ would have been worth it IMO, if no other reason than to get rid of that terrible, terrible contract. JH and PJB at the 4 for us is lightyears ahead of MoT and JH obviously, especially in toughness, rebounding, and defense. PJB reminds me of a poor man's Kurt Thomas. Besides, we would have floundered the pick anyways on some european-project-that-never-pans-out player (everyone is still playing catch up, shooting darts at the board, with Sac, Dallas, and SA in that regards). Wonder if that offer from NO is still on the table? Professional athlete with the "flu" gets banished to IR for over a week, sorry I just don't buy it, he's being shopped and hard follks, it's that simple...
New Orleans did not want to trade PJ when we inquired about his availability. The Rockets have stated that they would like to keep their 05 1st.
I thought there was a thread here, saying the Hornets were asking for Taylor and afirst round pick to complete the deal?
First rounders aren't worth much, but PJ is 35. Too old imo to be worth even a mid-first rounder, plus Taylor (who's 6 years younger). He's also putting up his numbers on a terrible team. Look what Juwan Howard did last year with Orlando, or earlier with Denver.
Mo Taylor was sitting at the end of the bench (in street clothes, of course) during the Orlando game. Didn't look like he had the flu to me. I don't usually sit up straight, let alone smile and cheer when I have the flu. How about you? He's either in the doghouse or they are trying to keep him healthy for a trade. It's too bad - he's actually an extremely nice guy (yes, I've met him) and he has bought 40 season tickets for several years in a row that he donates to underprivileged children's groups.
If so, that's news to me. In any event, the Rockets have stated that they would like to keep their 05 1st.
When asked about picking up Elden Campbell he really didnt give a straite answer but said he's allways looking to improve the team. He did add that he thinks the Pistons will pick him back up like they did w/ Hunter last year so if your looking for Campbell to land in Houston don't count on it.
Dude thats exactly why the deal did'nt go through. the rox, were keen to hold on that 1st Round pick!!
Agreed 100%. You don't give up a first round pick and a younger player for a 35-year-old who won't play more than another season or two.
And you blame them? The only reason the Rockets should attach a 1st round pick with Taylor is if the contract they are getting in return is shorter. And the first round selection should be in 06 at that.
hey - I think I derailed this thread with my statement about Mo - but can anyone answer the original question... mainly, what was said on the show ?!?!?! I missed it too
i missed it, but i sure wish somebody asked him about moving for donyell marshall...i really think with his, rebounding, blocking, and 3 pt range he would be a perfect 4 for this team, not to mention hes obviously not given any playing time in TO in his contract yr, i really think CD should take a long look at him
I understand the logic there, but it's the long term or ripple effect that interests me more than just being more productive this season. With PJB on our roster instead of MoT this season, I think I we win a few extra games and our rebounding increases. But without MoT's contract and PJB, Wesley, Spoon's contracts expiring shortly thereafter, not only can we afford to have 2 max players, but signing quality free agents, such as Swift, are sure bets to follow... Please chime in capologists...
PJ's contract is the same length and $$ as Mo's - no matter how bad Mo is, you do not give a younger player (who CAN perform well if traded) AND a 1st round pick.... for a 35 yr. old
I must agree. PJ is 35 years old! He maybe has enough gas for the rest of this season and the next in the tank for him to be really affective. While MoT though verryyyyyy over payed is still kinda young and will most likley have alot to offer a team after his contract ends.
Wow, you guys are right about the contracts: MoT: 3yrs. 27.3M left PJB: 3yrs. 26M left Now that I see the numbers, our 1st round pick for 1.3 million in savings, no way... damn, thought we would be making out. No wonder they had to leave Charlotte, paying PJB over 8M a year in his late 30s!!!
