i got really bored so i went thru and added this up Over 13 games...kind of sad Yao has only played over 35 min in 13 of 42 games this year MPG 36.9 FG% 55.4% 8.3/15 FT% 80.2% 5.6/7 Rebs 10.7 Off 3.5 Def 7.2 Asst 1.1 TO 3.1 SPG .85 BPG 1.6 PPG 22.2 So basically he is a 22/10 guy if we can get him to stay in games longer. How? By getting Yao to not foul so much. He is averaging a full foul more per game than his rookie year and he is not blocking more shots. I dunno the bottom line is I'm bored and I thought this was kind of interesting.
7-6 broken down further 1-4 the first 5 games of 35 min or more. the team was 6-11 up to that point. 6-2 the next 8 games of 35 min or more. the team is 18-8 over this stretch.
I wouldn't want the guy to burnout before the playoffs like last year. I think JVG has a better idea this year of what to do with Yao's minutes.
when you watch him play, you can tell that he doesnt really have the stamina to play extended minutes.
OTOH£¬ we can say that when his in a 22/10 form, he usually plays 35+ minutes. and if he ain't playing well, he plays less. ya, I know... I'm saying the obvious.
well...he has been in foul trouble all year long and has fouled out six times (I believe) so it's not a matter of not playing him he just can't stay on the court
he doesnt usually play less cuz he doesnt play well. he usually plays less because he is in foul trouble. i poorly tried to make that point by stating how his fouls per game is up by a full foul per game since his rookie year. plus he fouls out 1 out of every 7 games. so if you define playing well as meaning yao not getting in foul trouble then fine. if you define yao not playing well as him being non existent on the court then no u arent stating the obvious.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/stati...t=0&season=2005&seasontype=2&avg=none&pos=all yao is number 5 in total fouls and number 7 in fouls per game. amazingly danny fortson is the best fouler in the league only playing like 18 mpg. AMAZING! jerome james is pretty stellar too.
looks like yao has learned alot from his CNT teammate Mengke "the human foulin machine" Bateer this summer!
If you rank the players by fouls per 48 mins, Yao is at 47 which is almost at the bottom of the list. ranked by fouls per 48 mins
I really think his stamina has been better over the last 4 games. But many people have seen that. What I haven't heard mentioend as much is that Yao really looks like he's learning for once...how to block shots without getting fouls. How to intimidate without bumping with the body. How to change shots. And maybe most importantly, I've seen Yao get more calls than usual.
Yeah. over the past few games, you can tell that Yoa has improved a lot in those areas. If only Yao could manage to play like this for the reat of th season!
Thank you so much for a post I can respond to positively. I agree that Yao seems to be doing better about not chasing the guards so much down the lane and not leaving his feet so often when defending. He also seems to be getting fewer fouls called lately. Probably, as a result of the previously mentioned improvements in his game. Bill pointed out, and it certainly looked like it to me, that he didn't quite seem to have the energy against the Hornets as he did the prior 3 or 4 games. I hope that was just a blip on the chart.
I WOULD REALLY HAVE A STAMINA PROBLEM TOO IF I'D DRAGGED MY BIG ASS 7'6'' BODY UP AND DOWN THE GOD D*MN COURT WITH NO TOUCHES FOR LONG STRETCHES AT A TIME! Yao Ming's Dad.
