Ok, I haven't seen Million Dollar Baby and just want to get some feedback from those that have. Does it compare at all to Raging Bull(best boxing movie ever) or is it more like Rocky (feelgood trend setter...still good film)....or is it a whole 'nother thing? Discuss
Excellent movie.....and I mean EXCELLENT. Tough comparisons though....it certainly isn't a feel good movie so its hard to compare it to Rocky.....the thing that DOES remind me of Rocky is that you wouldn't have guessed how it ended...I mean, I never thought for a second that Rocky would lose that fight. (this doesnt give anything away...dont worry) As for Raging Bull...its too early to classify "baby" as one of the all time greats....which is what Raging Bull is. I didn;t really think I would enjoy it before i went, but I was blown away. Eastwood and Freeman were awesome...and Hillary Swank was unreal. I highly recommend it.
The title is horrible. I'm not a big fan of Eastwood's stuff lately and I can't really stand to look at Smarty Swank, but Morgan Freeman's in it and since it's been nominated for Best Picture, I'll probably end up seeing it. So, I have no idea what to compare it to is what I'm trying to say.
My folks saw it and said it was fantastic, but I haven't seen it. They go to the movies more than I do....75+ movie channels on their system but they still go to the movie theatre every weekend.
Yeah me too, that's why I ask. I'm not really too terribly excited about seeing it, but people I trust have said they were really surprised by how good it is.
Didn't you--eight minutes prior to this post--refer to Clint Eastwood as an overrated mofo in reference to his best actor nomination for this same movie that you now admit to having not seen? Your feelings against Clint wouldn't be politically motivated, would they?
There is no better boxing film than Raging Bull, and I doubt there ever will be. That being said...I heard that Russell Crowe is currently filming a biopic of the 1930s fighter James J. Braddock.
Rocky is probably in my top 10 movies ever. For simple fact that the character was captured perfectly, the city and visual effect captured the character as well, and the ending makes a statement about the character.
Yes I did. I don't have to see this movie to have the opinion that he is overrated. I did not like Mystic River (one of the only ones). I haven't really enjoyed any of his movies since Unforgiven and not a lot preceding that since Dirty Harry and his westerns. Since I'm not exactly what his political leanings are, I'll have to answer no. All I know about his politics is that he seems to lean conservatively (not sure about that) and that he used to be mayor of one of the most beautiful cities in the United States. Unlike what seems to be the majority in this country (or at the very least, a very vocal minority), I don't let the political leanings of actors or musicians determine whether or not I like their work. But thanks for asking.
Even though all my liberal friends did it, I just couldn't bring myself to run over my Toby Keith CDs with my Volvo.
Who cares about the title? The movie was awesome.....it certainly will be added to my favorite list of boxing movies.
Wow!!! What a great movie. This is a movie that will stick with you for a while afterwards. I don't even consider this a boxing movie because there is a much deeper meaning to it. This is really a movie about human relationships. Million Dollar Baby is not a feel good flick but is a must see for everyone.
Yeah, calling it a boxing movie is a little misleading. That third act changes the film completely. And for the record, I prefer Rocky.
I'm not sure I want to watch it. My dad wanted to see it while I was home for Christmas, but I relented. A friend of mine saw it and insists I watch it. I wish I had just agreed to watch it with my pops. Now Cinderella Man, that looks like it's going to be great. Everytime I see that trailer, I already start to get emotional. "When America was on its knees, he brought us to our feet." Speaking of Raging Bull, it seems the studio may have spoiled the ending of Robert De Niro's new movie, Hide and Seek. Be warned, here be possible SPOILERS. If you've seen the commercials or trailer for this, you get the basic story about a widower who's daughter seems to have an imaginary friend that kills. Well, in a new spot I saw on tv today, they were talking about the "praise" De Niro was getting for this and they showed him weilding a knife and attacking people and then holding a knife up with a crazy look in his eye and saying something like "you do want to play." I'm guessing this is like Secret Window, where the main character doesn't realize he's the killer.
UPDATE: Saw it, loved it, No real way to compare the films ain't a "boxing movie" as much as boxing is a good/intersting vehicle for the story.
