Well maybe if he looked a little less disinterested during games. Have you seen times when Yao is frustrated, and is trying to talk to Ewing about it, but it seems like Yao is just talking to a gorilla? It just seems like he does not care. There are members of this board that have seen some of the practices that he is involved in, and all he does is just dribble a basketball. It just seems like he is not doing much. We are basing our judgement on what we see. Maybe what we see is not what we get in this case, but it would be hard to convince some of us otherwise. So now that you have have some facts of why we feel the way we do, what facts do you have to try to convince us otherwise?
Sure I've seen Yao talking to him when he's frustrated. You're taking your impression of how Ewing listens as not caring? a) You can't evaluate his listening technique b) You have no clue what Yao is saying and whether it should illicit a response c) Yao wouldn't continue to go back to him (like he has) if he thought it was useless or if he thought Ewing didn't care Again, I've read people's accounts of Ewing at a practice or 2. I'm not sure what his duties are during practices. I'm not sure what his duties are outside that. But if you think he's getting paid to dribble a ball and stand around, I'm sorry, but that just isn't happening. He obviously wants to be a coach. There's no way he'd stay (or the Rockets would keep him) if he was a "trophy coach". I mean, it's not like he's even a Rockets legend. No reason to keep him around.. I don't need facts to convince. The guy is getting paid to do a job. To prove that he isn't based on the above is ridiculous. Proving that he is only requires what I said in the 2nd paragraph there at the end.

I don't. It's mean just like it's mean to call someone really really fat an Elephant. Or to call someone really really skinny a Calista Flockhart. It's mean, but just commenting on features that exist with exaggeration..not racism.
Trust me it's not racial at all. He just looks like a gorilla. I heard people used to throw bananas at him when he was at georgetown, but my source's credibility is questionable. Anyone else hear this about him?
I am old enough, and I remember reading that. And for those of you who can't tell, at the time it was considered an incredibly racist thing to do.
Ewing has been instrumental for this team in coaching a soft brand of basketball .... why dunk it down someone's throat when you can just settle for a baseline fadeaway jumper??... Yao needs to learn Dream-esque low post moves.... how about a Ming-shake?
Can't quite remember for sure but I believe it was a game against University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.
Exactly, if anything, I think there has been a marked difference in Yao's year 1 game versus his game now. His "power game" is much improved, his footwork and low post moves are better so I think you have to give Ewing credit for that. As for Ewing leaving, hey if the guy can further his career by going to the Knicks, more power to him. Another viewpoint may help Yao if Ewing leaves but my feeling is that chemistry is so important, Yao seems to like Ewing and the same might not be true if another "big man" coach is brought in.
How can you contrdict yourself that badly in 1 post? You think Ewing is soft because of a "baseline fadeaway jumper"...and then you WANT a Dream-esque move and you reference the Dream shake? Maybe you never watched the Rockets of the 80's and 90's. But some of us know what a Dream shake is. --Now, speaking directly about your first point, Ewing was all about dunking it down someone's throat. Have you ever seen his game? Let me quote a 1991 Ewing: "I try to dunk the ball as hard as possible--so that next time I go to dunk it, they think twice before trying to block it."
