For the last couple of months, I have been unable to use my laptop when it isn't plugged in. Anytime I try to unplug it it shuts down, even when the battery is fully charged. Anyone know what could be causing this? I guess I just need to pick up a new battery, but I wanted to make sure there is nothing wrong with my computer first.
Not knowing the model of your laptop, I can only suggest the following: 1) Check & clean the contact point of the battery 2) Check the Power Options settings
Mine did this too, it's your battery it will show it's full charged but in reality it's deader than hell. Come to find out my battery would have cost me 430 bucks so i just use it with the power plug.......
It's a Toshiba 5105-501S. I've checked the power options, they're ok, I'll check the battery contact area in a bit.
I bet it is one of those sporty blue metaillic models. That model of Toshiba is terrible. If the thing actually still works with the AC adapter, your doing good. We had bought three at the company I worked for. One got stolen while our consultant was in Houston on a business trip during the Alllison deluge. The other two finallly had to be retired after only two years because just about everything on them was failing.
When it gets to that point, basically your battery has lost the capacity to hold a charge. All batteries a life span and after a while it will just go dead like that. It will show that it is fully charged but as soon as you pull the plug it will die. There is no actual charge in the batter. You can find a replacement OEM batter for your laptop on ebay or any number of discount sites for a decent price to replace it. My Old Compaq did the same thing finally after 2 years and i replaced the battery and i am good to go on that one. I own a Toshiba now as well and love it
