http://www.nba.com/blazers/news/Qyntel_Woods_Update-128556-41.html Remember at draft time he was being talked about as a Tracy McGrady-type... was <a href="http://espn.go.com/nba/columns/spears_marc/1586209.html">tearing up the summer leagues</a> then. A lot of Rocket fans criticized the Rockets for not taking him over Nachbar... so, who was the bigger bust: Nachbar or Woods?
Yeah ... Woods ready to plead guilty to animal abuse http://www.oregonlive.com/sports/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/sports/1106312672108260.xml The Trail Blazers declined to comment Thursday on how a misdemeanor conviction would affect Woods' status with the team. "This process has been long and frustrating for everyone involved and we are hopeful for a resolution," Blazers President Steve Patterson said in a statement. First-degree animal abuse is punishable by up to one year in jail and a $6,250 fine, but the sources said that prosecutors and Woods have struck a deal that calls for probation. The plea agreement ends months of investigation that began after allegations that he abandoned an injured pit bull in Northeast Portland. Woods' home was searched Oct. 11 and again Oct. 15. Court records said investigators found bloody paw prints and smears in an L-shaped room above Woods' garage. Prescription pet antibiotics, metal dog chains, a treadmill and dozens of other items also were seized, according to court records.
Thanks for the link Clutch, hadn't seen the story. Sounds like the negative PR he generated through his off-the-court activities was as much a reason for the release as his weak play on the court. A little like Eddie Griffin. Of course, Woods was picked much later than Griffin (or Nachbar).
The guy is a mess. Talented? Who knows. He'll probably never be heard of again (except on Police Blotters).
Didn't they say the same about Eddie? Personally, I think animal cruelty is not where near as bad as shooting a women.
Give me a break. Woods will get a 2nd, 3rd and 4th chance if need-be. He will be back - he is turning 24 this year afterall.
I think we should pick him up for cheap. (I figured someone would say this, so I thought I'd get it over with)
ESPN: Qyntel Woods Waived I know he is a nut, I know he had a pit bull in a dog fight..........but this board was real high on him before we drafted Boki. I know we only seem to be interested in 38 year old guards, but would it hurt to get some additional young potential. I am a big animal lover, but at least he did not take a gun out on his girl friend. from nbadraft.net: NBA Comparison: Tracy McGrady Strengths: (Based on hearsay) Possibly the most talented prospect in the entire 2002 NBA Draft if he declares. Has skills that are unteachable. Part of the new breed of NBA players, of the Tracy McGrady, multi-skilled, ultra athletic types. A do it all player. One NBA insider I spoke to said he will be a top 3 pick and may end up the best player in the entire draft class.Comparing him to McGrady, he probably isn't the run jump athlete but his handle and shot are better. More importantly, "He's a good kid. I've met him and talked with his family, and he may not have taken the usual course to the NBA, but he's a good kid." Very versatile, extremely skilled wing player, with great size and quickness. Can handle the basketball extremely well at 6-9, scores with a variety of moves to the basket, and has a nice shooting stroke. Explosive player with very good scoring ability. Weaknesses: The Juco stigma. Kedrick Brown paved the way, jumping from a Juco player to being a lottery pick. However, he has had a slow start in Boston struggling for minutes. There will be no shortage of NBA scouts following Woods development this season.
Les Alexander's wife is huge into animal rights (or the Rockets make it seem that way)...so I'm not sure that Qyntel would be highly accepted by Les' wife. I think it might be worth a 10 day contract...at least. I remember wanting this guy big-time before the draft...his nbadraft.net compared him to Tracy McGrady. Got drafted by Portland and fell of the face of the earth. Maybe a change of scenery would help.
is Qyntel Woods a sf or pf? if he is pf should we try to get him?he's got some animal abuser issue but portland waived him today
