Did you know this movie was severely rushed so as to be ready prior to the election? No joke. Considering the content of the movie (mean, mean Republicans and courageous Democrats), I'll let you draw your own conclusions as to the motivations for that.
Have you seen the movie? It's really not as "mean, mean Republicans" as you may think. To be honest, I, in a way, admired the Republican congressman played by Oldman. He was very passionate about his beliefs. He didn't really think that Hanson was the best person for the job, and not just because she was a woman (and the way the movie was, we knew it wasn't the President's first choice). He just could've gone about it a little different. But Republicans do have a history of pulling up people's sexual pasts for political gain, so that was pretty much on target. And so what if it was rushed? If it was the other way around, I'm sure you wouldn't have a problem with it. Where did you hear that anyway, surely not the liberal media? And if it was rushed to get people to vote Democrat, hey, anyway to get them to the good side! ------------------ Cheerleaders are just dancers who've gone r****ded. visit www.swirve.com [This message has been edited by Rocketman95 (edited October 17, 2000).]
Bill O'Reilly (actually it was John Gibson subbing for Bill) had one of the producers of the movie (this guy is also Gary Oldman's manager, if I remember correctly) on his show, and they talked about how it was rushed 'big-time' to be ready prior to the election. No, haven't seen it, probably will at some point though, I imagine. 'Best in Show' is my top priority at the moment however.
Believe it or not, Gary Oldman himself has come out and said that the movie was edited in a way to make it more anti-Republican. Oldman says the original cut was far more ambiguous as to who the villians and heroes were and that he saw his character as the only true patriot in the original film. ------------------ Houston Sports Board DFW Sports Board
Did you know that Oldman is a huge conservative? He feels that his character is the hero of the movie, so if it was done for that reason, it was to appeal to both sides. Or maybe it was to appeal to more people since politics is in the spotlight right now. mrpaige, I was replying before I saw your remarks. The more I've been contemplating the movie, the more I tend to agree that the Oldman character was a hero in a sort of way. Now, if he just would have gone about trying to not confirm her a different way instead of pulling up some sex stuff, then he really would have been. ------------------ Cheerleaders are just dancers who've gone r****ded. visit www.swirve.com [This message has been edited by Rocketman95 (edited October 17, 2000).]
This was a great political movie, IMO. You would hope that all politicians could be like Joan Allen's and Christian Slater's characters. One refused to use any personal attacks against those who were doing the same. The other refused to vote for confirmation just because they were in the same party. The part that was the best was Laine Hanson's (V.P. Candidate) refusal to answer any questions regarding her personal life, whether it would help or hurt her. Like she said, what good are principles if we abandon them when it would help us? Kinda like Bush refusing to answer any questions about his drug use saying that it was personal and in the past, but he hadn't done drugs since 1974 and he's never cheated on his wife. Can't have it both ways (I know, all politicians do this. However, some think that Dubya's perfect, so I decided to point that out). ------------------ Cheerleaders are just dancers who've gone r****ded. visit www.swirve.com
