On the other hand, with regard to Keyshawn Johnson - was he worth his draft pick?

I am wary of drafting wideouts in the first round, the vast majority just don't pan out to be worth anything close to their draft pick. Considering we already have a decent wide recieving corp, and have pressing needs elsewhere, like an offensive lineman who'll wait till the snap to move, I would be exceedingly dissapointed in Mike Williams as a pick.

If Mike Williams is there at #13 then the Texans would have to take him. He would be the best player available. This will really open up the run b/c of the deep ball threat and especially the down field blocking. Sign 'em up!

Neither Derrick Johnson nor Mike Williams will be able to make a play if the guys up front are getting mauled, which they will be given the poor line personnel the Texans have.

It all starts with the line, the Texans line building strategy on offense backfired when Boselli couldn't go, they need to continue to agument those areas on both sides.

Saw where Willie Roaf made yet another Pro Bowl. Good thing he wasn't physically healthy enough to be eligible for the expansion draft.

i'm not sure the Texans are at a point where they have the luxury of taking the best player available in the first round. they have very definite, very specific needs that must be addressed.

casserly has said he probably we go best available... they are hoping to improve the oline before the draft. They are supposedly eyeing walter jones in seattle. Their top 3 players are free agents this year so he may not get franchised this year.

I agree with Sham (gasp). We need linemen.

I'd love to have Derrick Johnson from Waco High, but I'd prefer a solid offensive or defensive lineman.

Saying that and doing it are two different things. The teams will spount many stories before the draft to throw other teams off. IMO there is no way they take a WR in the first round when there are so many other holes to fill.

True but if Mike Williams is as advertised it will be hard to pass up. You can always get decent O-lineman in the 2nd or later rounds. My guess they will improve the O-line via free agency jus to have experience at the position.

Actually, he really was. Despite all the off-field crap, when on the field and in practice he's supposedly one of the most focused guys around. He never wants to come off the field, won't take plays off, and was (and may still be, I haven't watched him lately) one of the top 2 or 3 blockers from the WR position, something that is incredibly underappreciated for the success of the running game. His reception numbers haven't been eye-popping, but he's always been on a team with an offense heavily weighted to the run - first the jets w/ Curtis Martin, then Tony Dungee's Tampa teams.

Both Jones and Orlando Pace are available, as well as a number of second tier guys. I know that historically the axiom has been that you should never expect a rookie offensive lineman, even a high first round pick, to be able to play right away. That may have changed, but I think there is some wisdom there.

If the OL or DL talent is not available by 13, I bellieve the Texans can resolve their line woes in free agency.

I think having a WR duo in AJ and MW would be incredible.

Don't rule out a RB in FA.

Notice he said DJ from Waco High.

I hear Laramie (WY) High School needs a coach. Perhaps Kenny Hatfield should get a call. He would fit in well there.

Why? DD had a slow start. He was the reason the Texans even had a shot at 8-8 over the last 10 games. If Wells improves on his good season, he will be a fine backup. Tony Hollings should finally be 100% and hopefully will be be back they thought they were drafting.

I think MW is your classic tweener. I would take a good OL over a good wr any day of the week. After QB, OT is the most important position. LBs and WRs, while not a dime a dozen, aren't considered premium positions.

With a #13 draft pick you have to look at everyone that's there and ask who can have the biggest impact in a game, in Tex Schram speak..the biggest playmaker. Could be a QB, left tackle, Pass rush DE, CB, WR, DT, RB or other; sort of in that order.

That should only be qualified by the fact that you already have a player at the same position who can have a bigger impact than the best player available in the draft. So I would try to evaluate the top 20 or so players by that criteria and just take best one left.

Alex Barron Jammal Brown, Mike Williams, Braylon Edwards, Mark Clayton, Antrell Rolle, Carlos Rogers, Marlin Jackson, Anttaj Hawthorne and Marcus Spears...one of those guys will be there and any one of them would be fine with me.

Do the TExans really need another WR? Gaffney is a solid #2, imo.
